Default Mandatory sentencing for marijuana went into effect today

While you were all distracted by the US election, the new rules for manditory sentencing for marijuana took effect in Canada. Something to think about in our next election... or byelection.

While America liberalises their laws, Canada of all places tightens them.

Mandatory minimums?

F#cking fascists.

No worries.

They'll be struck down at the provincial level within a couple of months, and federally once the SCC has a say.

Either that, or they'll face a revolt from their own prosecutors (at least the ones in BC) who just don't have time to waste on MJ production trials.

Oops, I was too slow. I'll leave the metro link up though because it seems to be the only press information I can find related to this.

New miminums: http://canada.justice.gc.ca/eng/news...doc_32636.html

Link with the date of effect: http://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/news-no...doc_32759.html

I have no idea why I can't find any media coverage of this.

In other words, you're good to go if you have 5 or fewer plants for personal use with no intent to traffic.

Yes, the scourge of Mary Jane.

Not to mention the US' war on drugs has been a complete failure and has only cost the system money and lives. And that even they are starting to figure that out.

But hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

While one should always be careful of the specifics of the law, and you are right here, I do believe it won't be policed that strictly unless you've given the arresting officer some other reason to have a real beef with you.

If they ever get around to legalizing marijuana I hope they find a way of reducing the stench that comes from the smoke. Some people might like the smell, but I just can't stand it.

I wish the liberals had the balls to legalize before they collapsed and become the joke of a party they are today.

Uggh this is so the opposite of the way we should be moving.
