There's your four votes against right there.
The new council would not be sworn in until the New Year, so Jamison might have more time to close than I thought.

The rock version is more appropriate than the New Order original, since it more effectively evokes rage, pain, anguish and devestation.

Coincidentally, this song has really appropriate lyrics if you're a Coyotes fan.

Ryan Lambert is keeping track every monday on Puckdaddy:

Today is Day No. 66 since Jude LaCava of Fox 10 in Arizona said Greg Jamison would have the deal for the Coyotes sewn up within the next five days.

Glendale City Council's Yucca District candidate debate

http://www.azcentral.com/community/g...e-storify.html

Phoenix firefighter Sam Chavira challenges longtime Glendale City Councilwoman Joyce Clark in a runoff in November.

Clark, who seeks a fifth term, is the only council incumbent running for election this year.

Qs on Phoenix Coyotes. How is $15 million a year on average to potential buyer not a subsidy if independently it could be run at $6 million

Chavira: says it is a subsidy. Questions why the matter couldn't go for a public vote.

Clark: the arena deal is for service. For managing the arena. It calls for 40 nights of hockey and 30 other events. It's not a subsidy

Clark: The only other group that offered arena management was Phoenix Monarch Group. Questions their numbers they had quoted.

I understand the NHLPA is arguing that the $50M the NHL received from COG should be included in HRR (along with any other municipal subsidies).

That's cool. Operational losses should then be deducted from HRR.

The latest from Glendale:

Scruggs makes a case for letting Coyotes go

Glendale has been cranking out budget scenarios to show where the city would stand considering different variables, such as keeping or losing the sales-tax hike and keeping or losing the Phoenix Coyotes.

It’s the latter that has caught the attention of Mayor Elaine Scruggs.

No immediate cuts would be needed, according to one scenario that assumes the city keeps the tax hike but loses the hockey team that plays at the city-owned Jobing.com Arena.

Scruggs highlighted the no-cuts scenario at this week’s council workshop and called on council members to rethink the Coyotes deal.

The mayor said she would rather keep popular city festivals that are in danger of being cut than pay millions to keep the Coyotes.

“I don’t want to turn off the lights in Glendale,” Scruggs said, suggesting the hockey and concert arena could attract other events that would keep visitors at Westgate City Center, the nearby shopping and restaurant complex.

<snip>

Here’s a look at the city’s latest four scenarios:
>> If the tax hike and team stay: The city would need to trim $6 million from the general fund.

>> If the tax hike stays and the team leaves: The city would not immediately need to cut from the general fund, although as with every scenario, the city would have to wean itself off the tax hike before it sunsets in 2017.

>> If the tax hike goes away and the team stays: The city would need to cut $29 million from the general fund.

>> If the tax hike goes away and the team leaves: The city would need to cut $23 million from the general fund.

City leaders say the most severe cuts would hugely impact city services, including closing two of three libraries, shuttering an aquatics center and losing an additional 250 positions, or about a quarter of city staff. The layoffs would impact police and fire employees.

From Puckdaddy:

Today is Day No. 73 since Jude LaCava of Fox 10 in Arizona said Greg Jamison would have the deal for the Coyotes sewn up within the next five days. And now, even Glendale's mayor is all like, "Yeah would it really be the worst thing in the world if they left though? Because, like, then we'd get to have libraries and stuff still. Do people like that? Libraries? I feel like they do. Anyway the no one cares about the Coyotes. Just think about it."

Seems like a pretty obvious solution.

Sucky position for the (few) Coyotes fans, but hey... you have to be able to have municipal services before you start funding the existence of unecessary sports teams. Giving up essential public services to do so would be just wrong.

I think it is a myth that Westgate can't survive without the Coyotes. See post # 1955.

Prop. 457 not easy choice for Glendale residents

http://www.azcentral.com/community/g...residents.html

Prop. 457 supporters

Mara Soikans: “I voted in favor. When I go to Costco in Glendale and then to one in a different city, I notice the difference in my bill. I love my Diet Coke, and if it makes a difference of a dollar, I would shop elsewhere.”

Raif Saghieh: “Of course, higher taxes makes a difference. We’re already drowned in taxes. For Glendale to say they’ll cut police and fire ... it’s just a threat.”

Bob Lech: “Let whoever wants to buy the Coyotes pay for it himself. Why should it be on our backs? The tax itself may not kill me, but it’s the principle of it. We have cut our household budget, let the city do it, too. Don’t spend money on the team and don’t waste money battling that casino.”

Prop. 457 opponents

Joe Vasquez: “Where else will the money come from? I don’t have any problem with the tax. If I’m shopping in Glendale and the price of something I want to buy is reasonable, I’ll buy it. I won’t drive to another city to save a nickel or dime and waste money on gas. The Coyotes deal has got to be helping our community, bringing in more people to Glendale who spend in Glendale. I don’t want our festivals to be cut either. It brings people downtown.”

Moses Rodriguez: “We need the parks and pools for our kids. I don’t want crime to go up. I want to live in a safe community, so if it means paying a little extra, that’s OK.”

Margaret Dugan: “I’m concerned about cuts to police and fire. I don’t like paying higher taxes, but to me, they’re worth the services we get. The city needs the money. But we really need to get out of this hockey business, and they should quit fighting the casino. They need the extra money and visitors the casino will bring.”
