Don't most places limit you to Visa and Mastercard? Are you even able to use these MBNA cards at many places?

it is a master card that is affiliated with mbna. Or something to that effect. Bottom line it is a master card.

I just got accepted for the Capital One Aspire World Mastercard.
I already have the MBNA Smart Cash World card as well, but its rewards are best for gas/groceries only (3% cash back). I also spend an average of $4,000 on my credit card each month, so splitting that between two cards gives me better rewards.
I'm going to use the MBNA card for gas/groceries and the Aspire for everything else.

Thanks for all the helpful information in this thread.
I have a CIBC Aerogold Infinite card that I use for everything, and I pay the balance off every month.
I also have a RBC low-interest Visa from my student days that I never use. I've never cancelled it because I've heard (from no particular source) that it's good to hold onto a credit card with a long tenure for the purposes of maintaining a good credit rating.
Can anyone tell me if there's any truth in that?

As far as I know, unless you actually put something on it and make the subsequent payment ,it doesn't help your rating any. And could actually hurt it, as it would be counted as available credit. Don't take my word for it though. Just personal experience as a consumer.
How do you like the infinite?

Okay, I guess. Honestly I haven't thought about it much until going through this thread.
From the rewards aspect I'm happy with how it's generating Aeroplan miles, but I can't really comment further as I've only ever redeemed them for a hotel room. Looks like the common complaint with Aeroplan is in the restrictions for flights, but I haven't tried that yet.
On the other hand the wife and I went to Palm Springs last month, and we forgot to get travel insurance. (Definitely don't want to get sick or in an accident while in the 'States without coverage!) Now I realize we were covered all the while by the infinite card features.
Anyway to sum up - for frequent travellers I think it's pretty good. For me, I think I'd rather get a cash-back card, save the yearly $120 fee, and get travelling insurance for the few times I go anywhere.

Sorry to re-hash this old thread, but I was wondering if anyone has actually recieved a credit limit increase to thier Capital One Travel Aspire Card?
I have called a few times and all they can say is that they review your account and send you information through mail when one is available. Problem is they can't tell you if and when this can occur?
Normally my limit is fine, but when we travel it is nice not to have to clear your CC before you leave (meaning during the interest free period).
We put all spending on our card and pay it full when the statement comes.

I beleive this is wrong. You get a slight advantage to your credit rating by having a credit card open but not using it, as it increasees your credit to debt ratio. Basically the idea that someone who has credit but doesn't use it all appears more responsible than someone who maxes out all lines available to them. I don't work for a credit card company, so I'm not an expert, but this is what I've heard.

I just applied for a PC MasterCard since I buy all my groceries at Superstore & fill up at their gas stations.
Anyone that has this card, do you love it or is it merely "meh"?

Doesn't look like that good of a deal to me. 10 PC points for every dollar spent and 10,000 PC points is $10 back. Looks like you are getting 1% back. Most cards will offer you 1% back on all purchases plus more on groceries/gas.
There are better cards out there.

There is no annual fee & you get double points back if you use the card at Superstore & you get 7 cents in superbucks (instead of 3.5 cents) when you pay for your gas with this card.
What other cards offer a better cashback that has no annual fee?
I know ATB has a good no fee cash back card. But I don't really like to deal with ATB since they screwed up on my mortgage payout

MBNA has one that gives you 3% on gas and groceries, and 1% on everything else: https://www.applyonlinenow.com/CACCa...=COL7&lc=en_CA
There's also no restrictions on which gas stations and grocery stores you need to use.

First off, an update to the MBNA Smart Cash World Card. TD recently bought the Credit Card division from MBNA and the cutbacks have started.
Bottom line is that this card is no longer one of the best cash back cards available. I do not recall the exact numbers, but I recently cancelled mine.
*EDIT (found the info) *
Starting December 1, the amount of cash back you can earn on gas and groceries will be reduced from 3% on the first $600 to 2% on the first $400 per month (so, $8 to you). Thereafter you will get 1% on up to $1250 of spending per month ($12.50 to you).

I heard that Capital One never allows people to request credit limit increases. Instead, they review your card periodically and adjust it according to their internal calculator.
This kind of sucks for me, as I just cancelled my MBNA card, but I'm 90% sure my Capital One limit will be enough for the time being.

I believe the MBNA Smart Cash World card doesn't have the $1250 limit, but it still is massively nerfed.

Is the first $400 per month? I'm guessing its not per year.
Maybe the PC MC is a better card after all

I got the letter yesterday from them that the program was changing, but didn't read the details. That $1250 limit is a big change.
I pay pretty much everything that I can with my card, so it's always over $1250 in a month, and rarely under $2000.

Yes, it's per month. I'll edit to clarify.
