Default 130th Ave SE Connection (52nd St. to McIvor Blvd.) finally open

I recognize this won't impact very many people on here, but for those who care: it's finally done. I was told the connection of 130th avenue between 52nd Street and McIvor Blvd., which provides a much-needed access road into Copperfield and New Brighton, was supposed to be done almost exactly a year ago.

They put the road down at least a year ago and it has just sat there.

Finally today I noticed all the road closed signs were down and low-and-behold, wide open. Traffic lights are up.

This will really help decrease my commute time, seeing how I don't have to circle around anymore. And it made my day.

That is all.

Excellent timing, as I also noticed the major McKenzie Towne traffic circle is scheduled to be closed Sunday from 4am to 2pm.

I've heard some say this will help reduce traffic on Deerfoot; does anyone think that is an accurate statement?

It's entirely possible. People may start taking 52nd to Glenmore and bypassing Deerfoot. I have a feeling it's going to screw up traffic patterns at first as people adjust/try different routes, but in the end it should help spread the traffic volume out a bit.

My biggest concern is more congestion on an already congested 130th ave. There's 4 or 5 sets of lights in a pretty short span. It could potentially get pretty backed up during rush hours.

Overall I'm really happy about this as I live "deep" into Copperfield, so instead of driving South before I can go North I can cut straight over. Once it all settles down it could save 5-10 minutes of commute time each way for me.

I would guess it would help the congestion at Mckenzie Towne Blvd and 52nd from 130th but that's it. Probably will make 130th busier

in the morning 52nd is a gong show until 130th, it will be interesting to see how this impacts that.

it also seems that the sewer work they are doing on 126th (Behind Home Depot) will eventually need to go acroos 52nd, which will likely make 52nd unuseable during rush hour as traffic will crawl until it gets past the inevitable detrous over the median.

turning left from 52nd to 130th is a PITA on the weekend, it is almost better to go to Deerfoot and then loop back.

I am hoping it will help 130th as there will be more people going due East rather than trying to head South on 52nd.

That is my dream at least.

It should help people from the east side of 52nd get onto 52nd going North, without waiting for the gong show that is 130th. This, along with the new bridge on 52nd being opened across the canal/train tracks, means that routes to Glenmore, Barlow and Douglas Glen being quick, without hitting Deerfoot at all.

It blows my mind that Calgary now has a 130th anything that is within the developed area of the city.

Sundance is 162Ave, and that has been around since the early 80s.

I grew up there, on the edge of the city for about 20 years until Chap was built. Anyone else remember playing in the hay stacks that was just off Chap Blvd?

That was like 1992, wow time flies.

How can you tell I'm a kid from the North. 144th Ave N used to be way out in the country. I think there are houses up to that now. 85th street NW used to be by a bunch of farms and jails, and that was it.

Well, at least unlike Edmonton we didn't center ourselves around (100,100) assuming we'd never grow past first. Also, leeches.

i hope this was not a one off fluke this morning, but traffic on 52nd between NB Blvd/McTowne Blvd and 130th was noticably lighter compared to last week.

sure hope this is the new norm.

I expect it will be, as people begin taking 130th to 52nd and up.

Traffic on 130th this weekend was a complete gong show, however. The right lane approaching Deerfoot usually backs up from the 46th ave light to just past the 48th ave light. Yesterday, both lanes were past 50th, approaching 52nd. I really think the city needs to set up a two-lane exit onto Deerfoot, or things will just get ridiculous.

This won't adversely affect my 20 minute commute from Airdrie will it?
