First Car Hits the Road.
Nov 2, 1902 the first car hits the road.
Amazing how for the automobile has come in 110 years.

Really? I'm pretty disappointed we don't have hover cars, let alone fully flight capable cars. That being said, I'm pretty stoked about that self driving car.

Where did you get 1902 from? Weren't there cars with engines in the 1800s?

Yeah that stat is not accurate at all, there were many car companies formed in the late 1800's.
Maybe the first mass produced from a factory? that's all I could find from 1902

I had a client in her 90's, who would regale me with stories from the 1930's of boys with cars and having fun at Sylvan Lake dance halls.
I wonder which guy it was who first picked up a girl just because he had a car and yelled, "Hey sweetie, wanna go for a ride?!!!"
That would have been an historic moment.

Most people can barely manage to drive on a 2D surface, we shouldn't expect them to be able to drive with another dimension thrown in.
Apart from that, anytime there is a minor incident in the sky it could prove to be potentially fatal. What happens when you have a fender bender in the air? Or you run out of gas (or battery life)? Or you have mechanical failure?
Forget it, sister. Not gonna happen.

Never is a very long time.
Granted there will likely be no flying cars that are hand controlled. With computer controlled guidance it is plausible.

Well, never gonna happen in our lifetime.
Self-guided cars are coming our way and I can see them becoming part of our transportation system in the next couple of decades (although it will be a cold day in hell before I let go control of my car!). Even then, putting a car in the air brings a lot of new variables and dangers into the equation. Even just from a basic mechanical point of view, these things would have zero room for error. Your car dies on a road, you roll to a stop. Your car dies in the sky, you're dead along with whoever is on the ground. Just think of how much maintenance an airplane needs to be able to fly.

I can't wait for self guided cars. They're already in Vegas.

Imagine getting fall down wasted, climbing into your car, and yelling "HOME"!

Funny you would use grammar that was last appropriate in the 1930s as well during that story. On purpose? Or fitting coincidence.
We had a big debate on this as Peter Mansbridge loves to use this one.

This will never happen, and I hope it never does. People drive like ######s with a car. I dont want to imagine a world where a pilot's licence is as common as a driver's licence. People dont maintain their vehicles as is. I sure as sh*t dont trust them with the maintenance of an aircraft.

You think that there won't come a day where vehicles are no longer operated by a human besides choosing a destination and the movie they want to watch? It'll be a sad day, but I don't see how it doesn't happen. Traffic could be so highly optimized it would be a massive resource savings.

Huge different between automated cars and automated cars in the air. One is inevitable, the other one has a ton of issues to work around before it's ever even remotely viable.
