Heh. Turns out Google Music does work perfectly if you use a US VPN to signup. Just in the process of uploading all my songs.
Now I don't need more than 16GB for sure.

You are probably more of the norm than the oddball. I need high capacity because my smartphone is now also my music player, it eliminates the need for two separate devices. I'm sure services like itunes match and google music are great but you're still at the mercy of having an internet connection to access it. I still like knowing I have all my music available to me wherever and whenever I want.

I am looking for one in that price range right now. I would probably try to get it down to $140 or so, but yeah it seems like a great price.

Nice, i'll get around to setting this up as well.
Here's the Engadget guide for people.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/19/h...e-of-the-unit/
I heard google music has a piracy detection thing built in as you upload your music. I'm pretty sure some of my music falls into this category (primarily my chinese stuff). Does anyone know how that stuff works?

FYI, The engadget way of doing things did not work for me.
Editing the Torrc file was a major pain. Any editing done in the program would result in an error. Had to go and open the file in notepad and manually edit the default file. Got that done and then would browse to music.google.com and I could not get past the agreement screen that pops up.
I had to use Stealthy Pro and that worked in seconds.

That Engadget guide is way more complicated than it needs to be. Just download Tunnelbear ( http://www.tunnelbear.com/) or some other free VPN equivalent, run it, and sign up for Google Music. The whole process took me a minute or two when I did it a few months ago.

My only smartphones have been iPhones and I'm bored with iOS. $359 + shipping for the Nexus 4 seems a really cheap way to get to try stock Android without having to sign a contract.
I think the pros of the phone are:
+ most of the specs (screen, processor, ram, camera)
+ stock android (timely updates)
+ pentaband (world phone)
+ unlocked
while the negatives are:
- no LTE
- no microSD slot
I have an unlocked 4S so LTE doesn't really matter to me. My only questions were if the Nexus 4 uses a micro sim as well so I can just swap the sims (it does) and with only 16gb of storage (on the $359 model) how to get all my music on my phone. I've wanted to use google music, but I thought it was only for the US. Thanks to the information in this thread, I can try setting it up.

I've got a Galaxy Nexus and with Google Music I honestly have no need for more than 16GB. It gives me enough to store some on my phone (for areas with no coverage) and room to add a few movies or tv shows if I'm traveling.
I don't think I could handle only 8GB though.

Google is an advertising company though, they have a very different business model than Microsoft, Apple, etc. More users on their platform means more opportunities to serve up ads and control that experience.

Enough people have clicked on google ads to generate 37.9 billion in revenue last year. That's 96% of their total revenue.

You don't need to click on an ad for Google advertising to be effective, and thus something people will pay for. Just look at the first page of results for a search - paying to get on that first page is what you want. How much do you think it is worth to CaseMate or Griffin to be the #1 and #2 results returned for a search on "smartphone cases". Probably lots.

They don't sell page rank. Unless you're talking about the ads above the first results.

Thread derail. Please keep it on topic guys.
Google Music really is an extension of the 'Nexus' phone. Once you use it you'll understand why they don't offer a microSD slot. I just finished fixing all the tags on my music, and I'll be converting everything to mp3 so it uploads to Google Music properly, and from then on that is how I'll do most of my personal music listening.

How many songs Azure?
I'm uploading about 1,700 songs on a 512k upload limit on Shaw. Hooray for 2 days of uploading.

I have around 9500 that I want to upload. I started, realized my tags were wrong, deleted everything and then started again.
