So a little bit surprising to see the 4th Gen iPad (the New iPadS?) after only 6 months. I know they want to the Lightning dock connector out and into the market but there'll be a couple unhappy owners.
I think this is a different line, not replacing the old line of iPads.
If that is the case, it makes sense for them to stagger them, since Apple's "Hype Machine" can capitalize on it more.
edit: Correction, there is a new one as well. That doesn't make sense to me, unless they are shifting to capitalize on the Christmas market. Wonder if Steve Jobs had something to do with it not being that way previous to now.

They probably wanted to standardize on the lightning connector as soon as possible and they had the A6 already so could bump up the perf specs to raise the bar just before Surface and the next android tablet come out. And yes, in time for Christmas.
iOS and OSX may be getting a bit stale but they sure can crank out some impressive hardware.

The new Ipad is meant to be an alternative to the larger one currently available. Gives the consumer more choice. Staggering them would only make sense if you expected people to buy both the Ipad and the mini-one. A little ridiculous as you'd end up with a lot of people owning a, now larger, IPhone, an IPad, and a mini IPad. At most you need 2 of the 3.
Sorry, but I do not see how the iPad Mini can compete with the Nexus 7 with that pricing.
Or even the Kindle. Strange move by Apple to still keep it that expensive.
At this point, it's more so about giving that additional option to people with an iPod touch or a iPhone. If you weren't going to buy an apple product in the first place, Apple doesn't care. Just continuing to entrench themselves in the existing market place.

Apple doesn't care about people who don't currently use Apple products?
If their goal is to continually bleed current users with more high priced products that's not a road to continued success. I highly doubt that's true though.

I think the point was not that Apple doesn't care about new customers, it's that if you aren't already attracted to buying an Apple product (ie attracted to the Apple brand) they're not interested in trying to woo you with a low price.
Apple Inc. reported a 24% jump in earnings for its fourth fiscal quarter on Thursday afternoon, though the results fell short of investors' expectations given a slowdown of iPhone sales and lower-than-expected iPad shipments. For the quarter ended Sept. 29,
Great article about how Apple is costing itself dearly by having supply chain issues, and why if you're still holding stock now is a good time to get out.

Stock in media-worship-object, Apple (AAPL), is trading about 14% below its all-time high. When Steve Jobs passed, Apple lost its source of innovation. And when supply chain expert, Tim Cook, took the CEO slot, I thought he would at least be able to make sure the trains ran on time.
