Except that Epstein and Guillen had already resigned or their contracts were ending so getting anything was better than nothing.
Jays had more leverage here. Boston really wanted Farrell and he had one more year on his contract. So they got more (Aviles) but they perhaps could have gotten more than that.
I am not sure they had much leverage at all if Farrell indicated that he was more keen on the Red Sox job than the Blue Jays.

Manny Acta would be amazing. My dream candidate for the Blue Jays. Indians had 13 bunts under him, next lowest in all of MLB was 27. He loves sabermetrics and doesn't manage like a dinosaur.

Oh god no...the Jays according to Bob Elliot are set to to give both Jim Tracy and Manny Acta looks in the search for a new manager. One would be incredible, the other is the worst in baseball.

Manny Acta is terrible but I wouldn't say worst in baseball.

Too bad Ausmus has such a love going on for the mass-holes, he sounds like an awesome candidate based on all the press he got when he was interviewing for the Sox job. Would be my first choice.
I like what I've heard about Fasano and Alomar also and wouldn't mind Acta. Between his modern approach and spanish mother tongue I think he could actually fit with the Jays.
I really really hope you're joking. He certainly gets the most from his players, but he walks such a fine line, that there's no way he'd last more than 2 years on any team after losing respect from today's millionaire athletes.

I'm sure the Toronto press would love that. Also, guys like Lawrie have a a 50/50 chance of thriving under him ,or, they would punch Ozzie in the mouth.

Of course he is joking.
Not that he would take it or that the TO media would let him take the job the way those morons hate him but a guy that the Jays should go all out to get is Tony LaRussa.
With the talk about the problems of young guys in the clubhouse getting way too much leeway he would come in and sort that out in a heartbeat. He would also sort out whether Lawrie is willing to be a MLB player or just a talented guy with issues.
It will never happen but based on the rumours of the problems the Jays have he would be a great fit,

20 years ago today the Jays won their first world series. It can be used as a crutch by a lot of fans to relive the glory years, but what an amazing moment in time that was for the country and baseball in Canada. I'm still to young to remember it, but Game 6 had to be one of the best and most intense playoff games of all time. From what I can remember, from watching old VHS copies of the games:
Jays had a ton of hits but failed to really capitalize. Borders got thrown out at the plate I think. I remember him also throwing a Braves base runner out. I remember Maldanado making a huge catch in the 9th and the Jays being just one strike away with a lights out bullpen.
Somehow they get out of the 9th, which would have been daunting to not have gotten out of considering it forces a game 7 in Atlanta. Winfield up with 2 outs and 2 strikes and comes up with a huge hit but then the Braves rally again and Nixon comes up in the same spot. Cannot begin to grasp the emotions of being a fan of a team trying to win their first championship and having a swing of emotions like that

The Braves also rallied in the 11th! What a great game that was, Jays went to pretty much their last relievers Key and Timlin to get the save after Henke blew it in the 9th.
The atmosphere in old Fulton Country Stadium with the drums and the tomahawk chop made that atmosphere even more tense. Now Turner Field is just dumb.

They had Jimmy Key on the mound for that save, who had pitched that incredible game 3 if I remember, so the call to Timlin was even more incredible! I somehow remember reading this year that Key actually told Gaston he didn't have it, which is an incredible amount of honesty from a pitcher 1 out away from the World Series.
I've watched the VHS tapes of both world series a hundred times over, Readers Digest produced them and did an incredible job. I still would've loved to actually watch the games, see the swings in momentum, the atmosphere and the tension between games.
DJF mentioned that Baustista raved about Acta as a manager when he played for him with the DR. I don't know if that would influence AA's decision at all, but it is interesting nonetheless.

Was it this one?
