I think it's like anything. Jobs mean different things to different people. As one person pointed out, it's quite possible many people in cubicle farms are being degraded and taken advantage of. Heck, there's plenty of jobs where one get's taken advantage of.
I'm sure many women are stuck, somewhat degraded and taken advantage of. But I'm sure other like their situation. Some probably got started for the wrong reasons, even too young, but others really do enjoy it and and earn a living they couldn't anywhere else.
The question about the parents is funny cause usually it's the girls with crappy parents that end up doing the sort of sexually exploitative work that they regret later. If they have good role models it's quite likely that they don't do it. And even if they do, maybe they are among the portion of women it works out for and is a good fit for.

gargamel, how would you feel if your daughter was a stripper,
She is; she also owns a successful agency representing other girls.
And I'm cool with it.

and how would you feel about someone who influenced her to be one?
She started in her late 20's after trying many other very disappointing jobs. No one influenced her. She is an outgoing, independent woman. She works very few hours and makes great money.
As a parent I merely want my children to be happy, healthy and independent.

Are you serious?
You're comparing sports, where to make it takes a life long commitment, practicing, and only the top 1% of the population has the skill/talent/determination to make it, to stripping where the qualifications are have boobs?
I'm not comparing them as professions. My point was that once you take away the anti-stripclub arguments that would apply equally to professional sports, the idea that strip clubs are degrading amounts to little more than slut shaming. In any other context, that's unacceptable, but somehow it's okay when applied to sex workers. I know I'm not going to change anyone's mind about strip clubs, but I'm just hoping to make good intentioned people realize that, in saying that strip clubs are degrading, you aren't defending strippers; you're marginalizing them.

If I raised a strong and independent daughter who wouldn't succumb to the inevitable pressures to cross her own personal boundaries, I'd be okay with it, though I'd hope that she'd also get a good education and relevant work experience since you can't be a stripper forever.
I don't know what you mean by someone influencing her to be a stripper, but if you're talking about an abusive boyfriend forcing her into it (or forcing her into anything else, or just abusing her in general), I'd probably kill him. If you're just talking about a friend telling her about what a great job it is, I'd trust my hypothetical daughter to make her own decision.

It's probably obvious from my posts in this thread, but I'm up for a trip to the peelers any time.
You would have to go a bit further than Vegas to check her out...
Ahhh yeah, after I read your post again I figured she probably wasn't working in Cowtown. Regardless I let the post stand for fun. As for the Vegas comment, I was referring more to the posts in the beginning fo the thread comparing them to here. Also want to check out MOntreal. But there's a lot of reasons I love that city, I didn't really have time to check out the strippers.
