The Tigers should win this fairly easily, with Justin Verlander going twice in the first five games. But their layoff and defense are problematic, and the Giants rate the edge in bullpens.

The Tigers have beaten two teams perfectly matched for them, with offenses that didn't rely on putting balls in play. Now, they face a good offense that gets singles and doubles, and that will make the difference.

This World Series is a once-in-a-generation opportunity. The best pitcher in baseball with Hall of Fame ability is smack in the sweet spot of the prime of his career and getting the ball for Game 1. In a series with a Triple Crown winner, three Cy Young Award winners, two of the three winningest active managers in baseball and two deep-rooted baseball towns head over heels in love with the sport, Detroit ace Justin Verlander looms larger over the World Series than any other figure or storyline.

What happens to Verlander could define this series. He will start two of the first five games. The Tigers can ride momentum from their ace to their first world championship since 1984. But if the Giants dent the unbreakable one, especially in Game 1, San Francisco can harm the Detroit equilibrium and win its second World Series title among the past three.

Methinks Detroit takes it in 5. Simple reason for that I think Detroit has a vastly superior starting staff. With that being said San Fransisco likely will ending up winning it in 7.

I dislike both teams but I hope for a close and long series. I don't feel comfortable cheering for the Tigers who's post season appearance was only made possible by playing in a truly terrible division and Jim Leyland can manage a game in a way that makes me want to tear my eyes out. I do like me some Justin Verlander though and Miguel Cabrerra, while not deserving of the MVP, is one hell of a player. How is Max Scherzer going to pitch? He is very much like AJ or Brandon Morrow in relationship to the Jays, he should be the best pitcher in baseball but still struggles to find consistency.

I think it's the Giants series to lose however. I like their lineup from 1-9 much better. I think Buster Posey is the best bat on either team.I think they have the better starting pitching, as long as Zito does not blow up. Their bullpen could be a really big advantage for them as well. I'm not one to buy into narratives or that I, or we, as fans know how chemistry affects a team, but the Giants seem to have a ton of confidence, for whatever it's worth. They're still so young, they have no egos on the team and they seem to have an incredible amount of chemistry. The biggest thing for them is going to be the two starts by Zito (If he even makes a second one)

Since you mentioned the all-star break. April, May and June are overrated.

From July 1 onward, Detroit was 50-34 and the Giants were 50-33.

Those could be equally overrated as well considering the SF Giants had an incredibly comfortable lead in their division while the Tigers had to battle the White Sox down to the last series of the season.

The Tigers are still a good baseball team. I'm not going to take that away from them, I'm just waiting for a lot of the holes on this team to be exposed. If you're a tigers fan or supporter, you don't care how they got here, they're here with a rested Verlander. Flags fly forever

Not just a divisional race, the Giants were fighting for first overall until the last week when the Nats and Reds got too far ahead.

So were the A's at 38 and 17 after the all star break.

The starting rotation for Detroit is immense. Verlander in 2 games this series, along with guys like Scherzer and Fister, much better than what San Francisco brings, even if they hadn't just finished a 7 game series with their ace pitching game 7. They'll have to pitch guys on short rest against some of the best hitters in baseball. I hope it's a close series, but if anyone wins it quickly I definitely think it's Detroit.

I really do. He had a second half like nobody else. I think he's the NL MVP and has an even better defensive game. That being said, it's totally an opinionated statement, as Cabrerra did have an incredible year.

The Giants broke away from the Dodgers by quite a bit a good time before the season ended. I think it's safe to say a team approaches games in a much different fashion when one is fighting just to play another day and the other is battling for playoff positioning. The Tigers at the end of the day were the 7th best team in the AL and benefited greatly from playing in what is the worst division in baseball in my mind. That's just my prerogative however, it's not like there will be an asterisk on their World Series banner if they win. They made the playoffs, they beat two good teams, they're deserving to be in the championship. Lucky for them they were in the position they were, that they could afford their offense to finally come alive in September. They're a scary team right now with the pitching they've got and their lineup. Only points of concern are their bench and bullpen.

They have the best pitcher in baseball going up against Barry Zito. This is the Tigers game to win.
