What did you want to be when you were just a wee lad?

I wanted to be a Real Estate Agent, a Computer Programmer, a Ninja, a Professional Hockey Player or a Rockstar. What I could visualize was me working in an office with a nice view of downtown Calgary coming home to the same house I grew up in in Temple (until the age of 10).

I'm an IT Manager, over seeing the IT support department in an office in Lethbridge that doesn't have a window, is on the main floor of a one floor building and even if it had a window the view would be of some industrial yard. I go home to my house in Lethbridge, which has a nearly identical floor plan of the house I grew up in in Calgary.

So I could sorta see where my life was going, but just in general, no real specifics.

I wanted to be a pilot and then an actor. I'd still love to get my flying license one day. The acting thing came from being semi-decent in drama in junior high (lead in the school play! Im kind of a big deal) but that quickly faded when I started high school. Drama didn't seem like the greatest option when I could get credit for dicking around in Photoshop!

I now have a degree in Supply Chain Management and ride a desk in probably the most pencil pushing job on the planet. Every day I want to punch myself in the face for the 12 year old me.

Ice cream truck driver - So I could go south for the winter and sell ice cream year round.

Astronaut - Until my mom told me my eyesight probably wasn't good enough because I wear glasses.

Cartoonist - Follow in the steps of Bill Waterson, Jim Davis and Lynn Johnston. Sadly I'm not a gifted writer or illustrator really.

Now I push pixels around as an Interactive Designer, so you could say I'm an Internet astronaut I guess...

pro soccer goalie for sure, and it almost came true, played div 1 all my life, national team.. everything, was suppose to make it to the show in Europe, than i turned 17 and quit, to this day, I still regret that decision I made. god dammit

Perhaps you went through so many phases that you forgot which one you were infatuated with the most. At least, that's my excuse. I recall wanting to be an astronaut, a fighter pilot, a hockey player, a detective, a scientist....ummmm... But I still can't answer the question. I don't think any of those career possibilities stuck for much longer than a couple months here or there.

I wish my parents were a little more inquisitive about what I wanted to be around the time I got to high school, because that was about the time I stopped wondering, and as a result, I ended up wasting a few years doing stupid jobs and bouncing around from program to program at SAIT.

I plan on really encouraging my daughter to explore and consider all the possibilities running through her mind, as far as careers go. And if she wants to be a housewife, that'll be fine. As long as it's not because she never bothered to think about it.

When I was truly wee, I think I most wanted to be Spider Man.
As I got a little older I wanted to be a university professor or a professional motorcycle racer.
After that I had an idea that I might be a lawyer for a while.
Then I decided teaching might be OK.
Following on from that I figured running a school would be good.
Then I realized running a school wasn't entirely for me, so I decided an entrepreneur working in the wine trade was more what I want to be.
That's what I'm working towards now.

Out of them all, looking back, professional motorcycle racer is still what I think I would most want to do and could have been really good at. Wish my parents would have encouraged me more in going that way, but I'm happy I have the memories on a motorcycle that I do already.

This was back when Don Koharski, Kerry Fraser, and Bill McCreary were household names for NHL fans and were allowed to put their personal stamp on a game. It was only after the NHL implemented a "Referees are Robots" standard that officiating fell to poop....

Yeah seriously.
I regret so much about my scholastic career and what that limited me from doing now a days. I can't imagine backing out of a chance to go pro in a sport.

I hope I can some how convince my kids that taking things seriously when they're still young will pay off big time as an adult.

hahaha. I wanted to be a marine biologist too. But i didn't want to leave calgary so that kinda killed it.

I once had a prospective student ask me if SAIT offered a marine biology program.... Seriously? the Bow River is a stream and has like 2 species of fish.... hahahahahhahaa Yes i did laugh in her face... hehe

I wanted to work for Marvel or Squaresoft as an artist. Then I realized that, although I'm ok at drawing, I was not nearly as talented as I was hoping to be.

+1 and exact same thought until I started doing some looking into it in High School and realized that I would probably be stuck looking through a microscope at plankton for the first 10 years of my career.

Before that I wanted to be a Paleontologist

Too bad you didn't continue. There are tonnes of artists that get published and their art looks like crap.

Look at the guy who draws walking dead. he is terrible! But his comics still get bought because of the story line.

That's the thing. I just liked to draw. I suck at coming up with stories.

ummm thats the thing. You let professional writers like me do the writing. You just draw!

Hmmm come to think of it, there aren't many good artists who become good writers.

You only have Frank Miller, John Byrne,and Jeff Smith. And Frank Miller's art really sucks now.
