EB from Crowchild to Deerfoot is pretty smooth in the mornings. WB from 18th to Sarcee is hit and miss, depending on whether some schmuck screws things up over the reservoir.

No it hasnt. I used to work in the Foothills industrial, my destination was far NW Calgary. I had to leave by 320pm to gamble that the Glenmore tr is not backed up from crowchild to McLeod.

Non-expert here as I take Deerfoot about 6 to 12 times a year and thats when I need to get to the airport from the SW. That said, is any sort of toll road possible? Could a private operated toll road be built east of Deerfoot to alleviate traffic? Those who are in a rush could pay and that would reduce traffic on Deerfoot.

There's nowhere to build such a thing other than even further east than Stoney. Once Stoney is fully open on the east side, it will divert traffic from Deerfoot to do what you're suggesting.

Like I said, I don't drive Deerfoot much, so help mu understand how Stoney Trail on the west side of the city will help alleviate traffic on Deerfoot? An example of a typical commute pattern from neighbourhood to neighbourhood would help.

Stoney Trail is the name for the whole ring road, there's a west side and an east side. The NW and NE portions are currently open and the SE portion is under construction now (the SW portion is the one they want to build through the Reserve). Once the SE portion opens, you'll be able to go from south of the city to north of the city (and vice versa) bypassing the entire city.
People won't use Stoney to commute. Stoney is a bypass. By diverting people onto Stoney who don't want to go into Calgary, it will reduce traffic on Deerfoot.

Sure, some people will if it makes sense based on where they live and where they work. Generally speaking though, it's not being built as a commuter road (especially for people going downtown). It's being built as a bypass.

My own experience - I was bored once and decided to see what it would be like to get off of Deerfoot at 17th Ave and drive all of the way over to Stoney Tr and drive north to Beddingto (my commute would normally be between Beddington and Glenmore Trail).
There is no way I would do that again. I don't think anybody would try to bypass Deerfoot that way, as I found it was a big waste of time.
I do use it though to go from my house to Costco or to get to HWY 1 or Olympic Park. It's convenient that way. I think that's how most people use Stoney Trail currently. Sure beats taking Country Hills Blvd anywhere in the NW.

The Glenmore interchange needs to get done.
The bridges over the Bow by Anderson needs to be widened, the third lane going north needs to not end just after the bridge there; the merge from DDale going north needs to be adjusted (the way it is now is the stupidest thing)
Vehicles entering from Anderson need to be restricted from merging over to the left immediately, it fata's everything up (their lane doesn't end but they all seem to think if they don't move over 2 lanes to the left before Southland ..I dunno their car will blow up or something)

Predictable, but it still amazes me how people completely forget how to drive in winter conditions season to season. Plus it's not even bad out there, sure you get icing on the bridges but that is nothing new. Better improve those traction control systems on cars and stuff in a few more airbags because most people are simply incapable of learning how to drive an automobile properly.
And what really angers me is because people can't drive worth a crap, they are forced to dump gravel and salt constantly which completely trashes your car.

^ What is the problem with the Calf Robe bridge? If that curve was on a single lane portion of HWY 1, or anywhere on the Coquihalla, people would have no problem navigating it. They'd be doing 120 kph around it with ease.

Is that the only cause of accidents on the Calf Robe? It seems that is a sore spot all-year round.

Calf Robe is just south of the outlet from the water treatment plant, which comes out of there warmer than the regular water in the Bow River. I've heard that's why the bridge tends to ice over worse than other parts of Deerfoot.
They've tried to do things to fix the problem, but they obviously haven't worked.
