Recipes thread: Post em'
Well hello their fellow hockey-fans:
I've started my journey (perenial) to losing weight. This time I got upto a lardy 192 and have dropped to 176 since Mid September.
Just thought I'd share a delicous dessert recipe that lacks sugar and carbs:
Protien Brownie:
One Scoop Chocolate protien: C 4 F 3 P 22
One tbsp FF Greek Yogurt: C1 F1 P3
One TBSP natural PB C2F2?P2?
Four TBSP Water
First: Mix the yougurt and PB together into a mush, add the water mix again and then add the protien and mix thoroughly.
Microwave on 30-45 seconds and enjoy.

Do you make dinner at home? If you do just make extra.
I find pasta, meat loaf, quinoa, chili, chicken all hold up well for lunch the next day.
I love steak and roast but microwaving them sometimes dries them out, still takes good but not as good as it is fresh.

I usually grab whatever looks best in the staff fridge. I eat early so that I get the best selection and have time to put the empty lunch bag back where I found it.

I've gone from 187 down to 165 since the beginning of August. Right now I'm on my second round of Insanity.
I don't eat breakfast or lunch. Just coffee and tea until dinner time. Then I'll have dinner around 6, do my workout around 9 or 10, then snack on some apples or oranges after that. Once your body gets used to it, you don't get hungry at all.
Edit: Oh, a recipe.
Berry Protein Smoothie.
- 3/4 cup frozen mixed berries
- 1 cup Chocolate Almond milk
- 1 rounded scoop of Chocolate whey protein
- 1 tbsp All Bran Buds
- blend until smooth

Heat a soup pot over medium/medium-high heat.
Wait for the pan to come to temperature, add about 1 tablespoon of olive oil. When the kitchen smells like olive oil, add 2 teaspoons of whole cumin seeds and let them sizzle in the oil for a minute or two, they'll turn darker when they're ready.
Add one white or yellow onion, chopped, and sweat that baby until it's barely browning. Once, the onion has a bit of colour on it, add a chopped up head of cauliflower to the pot. Once you've added the cauliflower, I generally add a bit of paprika and a load of fine black pepper. Add some salt, let the cauliflower soften a bit and then add two cups of milk and two cups of water or vegetable stock (I almost always just add water, not bothering with the stock).
Bring it to a boil, then let it simmer on the stove for 20-30 minutes. Puree it with a hand blender, bob's your uncle.

I try not to starve my self:
I'll chew on turkey peporoni sticks + cheese and vegis throughout the day. I find its helping me retain my little muscles.

I don't wanna be that guy here, but, you're doing your body an incredible disservice by not eating breakfast or lunch, and you're likely reducing the positive results you're trying to achieve with your exercise.

Just to reiterate what others are saying:
When losing weight you need to feed your body more often so it does'nt go into starvation mode.

I did expect these types of comments, but would you guys mind explaining why it's unhealthy or a disservice to do so?
My two goals going into this were to a) lose weight at an acceptable rate (22 lbs. over 11 weeks for 2 lbs./wk, mainting a 500 cal./day defecit) and to b) retain muscle mass (I have gained a bit of muscle over this time period with a high-protein diet). Thus far, I have achieved both of these goals, and right now I'm in the best shape I've ever been in. My energy levels are high, I'm as flexible now as I was in elementary school, and most importantly it's helped with my confidence and self esteem.

Asparagus & Spinach soup:
Put a regular sized carton (900mL) of beef, chicken or veggie stock in a pot; put it on high and throw in:
- 5-6 peeled, crushed garlic cloves
- 1 medium sized red onion
- 1 good sized bunch of asparagus
- 1 tbsp of Thyme
- 1 tsp of cayenne pepper
- 1 tsp of black pepper
After all these ingredients have been boiling for about 15-20 mins (when the asparagus is soft), start putting in handfuls of fresh baby spinach. With each handful, use a spoon to push the spinach into the boiling broth. I get my spinach from Sobeys – they sell baby spinach in two different sizes of rectangular plastic packages – I usually use an entire large one.
Once your all your spinach is in the soup, blend it up using a regular blender (careful though, if you put the lid on really tight it'll blow off when you hit blend due to the heat of the soup) or a hand held wand blender.
Add 4 tbsp of sour cream & blend again until the soup is completely smooth.
Salt to taste (using sea salt, not iodized salt) & serve with a dash of paprika on the top!
