Just think - this process is only going to improve over the next 50 years.
The donor also saved five other lives with his organs as well. It is stories like this why I have no problem donating myself to science when I pass away. My body is best served saving others than rotting six feet under.

I was too because I assumed it was a suicide attempt, but I believe in the article it said it was accidental so I was ok with it.

I dunno, even if you shoot yourself in the face by accident maybe it should be visibly apparent to others how stupid you are. :/
At least give it to the person who was born with the disfigurement. (Course medically maybe this was the best or only match, just the first thing to pop in my head. Don't shoot yourself in the face! Even by accident!)

Agreed.
The next time some clown blows out his knee playing hockey we should give him some crutches to hobble around on the rest of his life. And the next kid who breaks his neck jumping into a pool should be left to drown.
That money can be used to cure the un-stupid!
This guy blew half his goddamn head off in an accident and modern medical science was able to not only save his life, but reconstruct his face so he doesn't spend the rest of his life as a disfigured hermit. FAIL!

Hockey and diving are pretty different from gunplay. Especially if you are using the gun improperly.
As I said, probably just my feelings. I know it won't be the most popular thought, but it's the first thing that pops into my head. Don't point guns at your face? I've got compassion for lots of things, probably more things than most people considered how much I get called a bleeding heart, but this doesn't do much for me.

As an added bonus, looks like he will have to shave less often.
