Norway pops up here and there, Finland generally sucks. Denmark has been strong for a while so I guess that's another, but they're vikings so that's not quite fair. I guess Germany counts as cold weather, but it's filled with robots in human skin so again, not really fair.

Poland, Ukraine, Serbia, Hungary and etc.etc. There are plenty of cold weather nations that manage to excel at numerous sports professional and amateur. They also have passionate fan bases for many different sports. We have fans for hockey and ?

Ditto.
In other news, Portugal losing to N. Ireland.
When the announcers say; "Nani to Ronaldo to Postiga!" You can generally figure out why they didnt score.

I'd kill if we could have the mentality of France or Italy. Those are examples of REAL sporting countries.

You think the UK has a similar climate to Canada? Really?
And what exactly makes France and Italy "REAL sporting countries"? What other sports are they elite in? What other sports does the nation support?

While I can't speak for the other countries, Serbia is very a strong sporting nation: tennis, water polo, basketball, handball and volleyball all come to mind.

handball, field hockey, tennis, athletics
just because they are not popular here doesn't mean they don't excel in it

We could still qualify with an 8-0 Cuba victory right? They are up 1-0 right now.

I wonder if this is Hart's last game as coach? The team was completely unprepared in both the Panama and Honduras games. That's on him.
This loss is only going to further demonstrate how far Canada has to go to get to the World Cup, and I imagine it's going to kill and even reverse the momentum the program had with the Canadian fanbase after the Women's Olympic tournament.

So two sports nobody outside of that region plays (I realize this can apply to hockey) and individual sports and all of a sudden we're holding these countries up as great sporting nations? That's absurd.
Was Canada a great sporting nation when we went through the period of having a number of world class sprinters? Does the fact that we are elite in sliding sports not qualify? What about skiing? No? Speed skating? Doesn't count?
The point is that you're digging to find things in other countries and ignoring what Canada excels at. It's such an oddly Canadian thing to do, find a way to trash your own countries sporting prowess.

It's not like the UK is some warm climate oasis. They have miserable weather there too.
France: Soccer, Basketball, Motorsports, Handball, Rugby, Tennis, Cycling are all sports that they blow Canada away at and actually support with REAL passion. On top of that, France is a top 10 country in both olympic games.
Italy: Soccer, Swimming, Cycling, Skiing, Volleyball, Basketball
Canada: Hockey, Curling (lol)... We'd be okay if there was any sort of international competition with Lacrosse or football... Thats it. The vast majority of Canadians could not name one player from the Canadian olympic basketball or (last) baseball teams and we're not great in either.
Individual olympic sports are hard to classify because many countries have a few athletes that are decent in a variety of sports. That doesn't mean they're some avid supporters of the sport. That usually comes with consistency. Canada had a period of time where they had great sprinters, but we're hardly a nation of sprinters... Poland for example, has a great cross country skier right now... Doesn't mean that they're a cross country power.
I'd give Canada Speed Skating and Rowing as we tend to consistently excel at those.

We are a young country. Our Rugby and baseball teams are respectable and we are producing a lot more football, basketball, and soccer players then we were 10 years ago.
We have the best high school basketball prospect in North America to go along with a number of first round picks the last couple of years.
The fans will come if we manage to taste some success in any of those sports.

They have pro basketball, volleyball, rugby etc. etc. Heck we have numerous Canadian athletes who have to go there and elsewhere to play their sport. Canadians support hockey and I'm not sure the average Canadian even supports that as such a huge percentage of the seats are held by corporations.
It's just who we are. I think our infrastructure at many sports is slowly getting better but it's a few select people that work at it with very little support from the general populace.

So I went out to help the Purolator guy with a bunch of boxes, and come back and it is 6-0? So much for the comeback.

If you fire Hart you're going backwards.
Remember where Canada was 4 years ago.
Perhaps we expected too much to go from nothing to something.
Getting 10 points in this round was still an achievement.

I agree. When you enter a winnable or drawable game and you're coming out the other side with a 6-0 thrashing at the moment fingers must be pointed.
