Default Wisdom teeth

Any other CP'ers have their wisdom teeth pulled? I had mine pulled out Thursday morning and have been getting better each day. For people who have had their's pulled. How long did you have your cheeks swollen (It's day 3 for me and they are still big) also how long did it take before you could eat real food like steak or chicken? I dont want to get food stuck in those holes but I also dont want to live on apple sause and pudding. Does anyone know how long it takes for the holes to fill? I had a chart but lost it. If anyone has a chart and could post it that would be great.

I had all 4 removed and I was ready to go continue eating whatever I wanted within 3 days.

I barely had any swelling, pretty much no pain at all, took me ~ 2 hours after for the bleeding to pretty much fully stop/clot.

I don't have a chart, but for the first while I used my front/side teeth for chewing, just in case.

I had my Wisdom's pulled a few weeks ago (during reading week for the U of C), mine didn't really swell up except for one day, didn't feel any pain or anything of that sort. Basically I got off really good.

The holes are basically filled now as well, once you feel you can start stretching out your jaw and you're sure the stitches are gone then you may want to wash out the holes with that syringe they give you.

In terms of real food I didn't really start to eat solid, solid food for a week. Basically I lived off instant noodles, and pudding for that time being.

Basically the holes don't fill in for a while, so keep 'em clean with that syringe, otherwise you'll have food jammed in the back there, but take it really slow, better screw yourself over temporarily then have to start the recovery procedure all over again.

I had all 4 of mine pulled over seven years ago, I don't remember how exactly how long it was before I started eating soild food- a few days I'm sure. I remember eating lots of pudding and scrambled eggs.
My only advice would be make sure you keep your sockets clean. My sister and I both got our done on the same day, I was totally fine but she got a case of lock jaw from her mouth being open too long. Anyhow, she couldn't open her mouth clean the sockets and she got an infection. I found it pretty funny, but she was in some serious discomfort.

I had mine done a few years back too, and I didnt really swell up too much either so I can't really comment on you. I just remember getting food stuck in those sockets, which then began to reek so bad I thought someone was sneaking feces into my pudding.

Had mine out a few years ago. It's really amazing when you can eat good food again - hold out for a few more days and I'm sure you'll be fine. And don't drink (alcohol) yet. Learned that one the hard way.

I had all 4 pulled about 5 months back, and was amazed at how pain free it was. I had heard some bad stories about the procedure, but I had essentially zero swelling. Was eating solids within 4 days, and that was being safe.

The worst part about it for me was the slow yet constant seepage of blood from the wounds, but that only lasted about 2 days. Sutures were gone within a week, and now there are only small indents where the molars used to be.

I had mine done a few years back. All 4 at the same time.

Went in, filled out all the paperwork, went into the dentist office, was put out (glad I wasn't awake for it), woke up, opened a different door in the office which led outside where my dad was waiting with the car.

Pretty simple, especially after hearing so many horror stories from other people.

I was only really sore for a day or two, then pretty much back to normal in no time.

I had four main wisdom teeth, as well as two other nubbins that were also called wisdom teeth. All six were pulled in the same day. It really wasn't as bad as I expected. I got them done on a Thursday, and stayed home until Monday or Tuesday. I had some pain and swelling for a few days, but nothing drastic.

I had no issues. The bleeding stopped after an hour or two when I got home. I eat soft things for about a week, but I guess i could have eaten real food a lot sooner. I didn't wanna make any mistakes. Be careful about jumping back to normality too soon- you don't want to screw it up because you just had to eat your steak. Wait a few more days if you're not SURE you're ready.

I had all 4 pulled in December. It was a virtually pain free procedure, and I stayed awake for it. Amazing how quick it was too. The actual removal of the 4 took no more than 25 minutes.

The recovery for me was slow. I had bleeding for about 5 days, and solid headaches for about 2 weeks. I couldn't eat chocolate or candy for a couple months, the sugar was too much to handle.

The holes are all pretty much filled in now, and I'm glad its all over with.

I had all 4 out in November.

It was surprisingly easy, the first 5 seconds after waking up off anesthesia were trippy as hell, but I hopped right up and headed home, with no pain, no headache, nothing. The bleeding stopped in about half an hour and I was fine for eating soft foods and drinking that day. I ate easier things to chew the next day, and 2 days after the procedure I was eating everything again. There was barely any swelling at all, at least no one noticed.

I did, however, get an infection a week later. It didn't hurt as much as it was annoying. It's quite unexpected too...it just starts feeling bigger and at night it swells up pretty bad. It was feeling really wierd and knew it was infected so went back, waited an insufferably long time (not because of the pain...because of the damn long wait period...ugh). He came in, opened a small cut and squeezed the HELL outta my face...it hurt like crazy, by the way. It was fine in a couple days on some prescription pills.

I had 5 taken out in August and it was a pretty positive experience. I'm gonna have to agree with Jordon about the zoodles though. I lived off them for about a week. I had zero swelling, no pain, minor soreness and minimal bleeding, but I didn't eat anything of any substance for at least two weeks I think. Even then I was careful.

I didn't need to get them out but my parents made me cause once I turned 19 they would have had to have paid for the procedure. Better to get them out young anyway. My dad got them out when he was 40 or 45 and he was in the hospital for a couple days on morphine the pain was so bad.

Question

how old is everyone when they have had their wisdom teeth pulled? I am 36, with all 4 in looking good........what are the reasons for getting them pulled? I thought once they were in and looking good, all is well...apparently not judging by all the people who have gotten them removed recently...Inquiring minds want to know

I just had all 4 of mine taken out last Friday. Overall it wasn't too bad. They knocked me right out so I didn't see, feel, smell, or hear a thing. The first day was kind of ****ty because I couldn't get them to stop bleeding. Other than that it was just being careful and making sure you keep them clean.

I have started to eat regular food know. I would say less than a week after the surgery and you should be eating regularly.

Like everyone on hear says, make sure you clean the sockets. It is gross the amount of food that gets stuck in there. If you don't clean them they get infected and stink like ****. You will get some wicked bad halitosis.

I didn't enjoy my experience. I went in to have all 4 pulled at once without going fully under. You don't feel much, but listening to the cracking of the teeth is not pleasant. Plus you feeling the pulling sensation while the guy is using this crowbar like tool to get them out.

To make matters worse the dentist I went to couldn't get my top two out, apparently I had abnormally large wisdom teeth, so I had to go to a guy that specialized in wisdom teeth and get the top two removed. So just after the bottom two wounds had healed I had to go back before I got on solid food again. Then they did the top two and it was the whole thing over again.

As for age, I think I was 22 at the time. If I had to do it again, I would have paid the extra cash to go fully under (I only had partial insurance coverage).

I've never had my wisdom teeth pulled and the dentist told me that I probably won't ever need to have them pulled. I'm 30 now and haven't seen a dentist in 12-14 years.

As for your question Indi, from my observations, most people get it done before they're 25 and the chances of having them pulled start to drop big time after the age of 18. I'm not a dentist and I could be wrong. Can anybody out there confirm or correct me?

Mine went so much better than I expected it would. Probably as well as I've ever heard... Got all four done under local freezing only on a Tuesday after work. Couple needles, wait two mintues, pop, pop, pop, pop, you can go home now. Wow, that's it? Total appointment took only about six minutes.

I chewed on the gause stuff until I got home, and then got rid of it. Ate mashed potatoes that night as I was still a bit frozen, and then went back to a pretty normal diet the next day. Most people at work the next day didn't even notice anything as I had minimal pain, and nearly zero swelling.

I definitely got off easy as I've heard a few horror stories from others.

I had all four done last year...I had no swelling...and only a little pain but normal Advil worked for me. I also was eating normal food the next day....But looking at some of the stories here and hearing from my friends....I got off really easy.
