Hey don't you touch the qb's head either! Oh and by the way, those receivers coming over the middle that you're suppose to dislodge the ball from; yeah, you can't hit them too hard either.
NFL: taking the tackle out of tackle football...
I don't want to see someone lose a career to head injuries. I've had two diagnosed concussions and probably two more undiagnosed that I had my "bell rung". But it's a contact sport and if you hammer someone and not intentionally going for their head then let em play. The NFL has just got too involved with trying to keep up with the high scoring of the College game and trying to bring that excitement to the NFL. Everyone complained about the Ravens SB team and how they had no offense but that doesn't mean you have to take the defense out of the game. They want you to score but better not celebrate those TD's you're getting!
Just like CFB, they move the kickoff up and bring the touchback out another 5 yards for safety but got rid of the HALO rule on punts.
So let me get this straight, you have guys on kickoffs who are 95% of the time able to catch a ball on a kickoff and run with it and deem that unsafe but get rid of the rule that keeps the guy standing by himself waiting for a ball to come down and getting hammered as soon as the ball touches his hands?
Safety... Yeah right...
This is also the league that promotes big hits on videos but fines them out of the sake of safety. The PA complains about the league not caring about their safety but appeals a fine or suspension that a player gets for giving such hit...

How that is a legal hit is beyond me. I know it's fine within the rules but that was one of the cheapest shots I've ever seen and I'm watched a ton of Matt Cooke. Coming from behind and going for the knees is sicker than a helmet to helmet hit IMHO. Get that out of the game!

NFL great Alex Karras has passed away:

Not old enough to see his NFL career, but certainly contributed to one of the best movies ever made in Blazing Saddles

The kickoff rules aren't about protecting returners, they're about protecting the guys flying down on coverage and the guys who are blocking them.

From Scott Fujita:
October 10, 2012Statement from @scottfujita99: "I'm pleased the Commissioner has finally acknowledged that I never participated in any so-called "bounty" program, as I've said for the past 7 months. However, his condescending tone was neither accurate nor productive. Additionally, I am now purportedly being suspended for failing to confront my former defensive coordinator for his inappropriate use of language. This seems like an extremely desperate attempt to punish me. I also think it sets a bad precedent when players can be disciplined for not challenging the behavior of their superiors. This is an absolute abuse of the power that's been afforded to the Commissioner.
For me, the issue of player health & safety is personal. For the league and the Commissioner, it's about perception & liability.
The Commissioner says he is disappointed in me. The truth is, I’m disappointed in him. His positions on player health and safety since a 2009 congressional hearing on concussions have been inconsistent at best. He failed to acknowledge a link between concussions & post-career brain disease, pushed for an 18-game regular season, committed to a full season of Thursday night games, has continually challenged players' rights to file workers compensation claims for on-the-job injuries, and he employed incompetent replacement officials for the start of the 2012 season. His actions or lack thereof are by the league’s own definition, “conduct detrimental”.
My track record on the issue of player health & safety speaks for itself. And clearly, as I just listed, the Commissioner's does too."
Too many questionable things coming from players to fully legitimize what Goodell has been doing to the Saints. I've always said they should hammer people who deserve it, but too many signals out there that Goodell acts in bad faith. I totally agree that he could care less about safety, pushing THursday games and 18 game schedules is the exact opposite of what you would do is safety was important. It's just superficial tap dancing to future judges and juries for the upcoming class action suits. Exactly how I would expect a NY lawyer to manage a business.

Just bought tickets in the 15th row on the 50 yard line behind the Chiefs bench for the Raiders game. Super pumped. Also got tickets for the Sea of Red Tour on the friday. Get to go on the Arrowhead field and everything.

Last time I bet on the Steelers on the road this year. They've been garbage on the road dating back to last year.

Ndamukong Suh is being investigated for yet another traffic incident and likely more...
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...e-of-accident/
Quote:
According to FOX 2 in Detroit, Steve Vines claims that Suh sideswiped Vines’ car, left the scene of the accident, and then yelled at Vines at a stoplight.
Vines says he called Dearborn, Michigan police, who told him to go to the team’s practice facility and wait for them to arrive. So that’s what Vines did.
“That’s when [Suh] said, ‘I advise you to leave, now,’” Vines said. “And I said, ‘I’m not going anywhere. I talked to the police.’ [He said], ‘I don’t care what they said. You need to get out of here.’ And then he said, ‘I’m advising you to leave, now.’”

Steelers better hope that Mendenhall isn't seriously injured and just sat precautionary after coming off a big injury. The loss of him would bring that running game down a long ways.
If it wasnt for big ben having a career year start through his first 5 games, the steelers could be in a much uglier position then they are now

There is a bigger idiot than Ndamukong Suh in the NFL. His name is Alameda Ta'amu who just might have thrown his NFL career away.
Quote:
Pittsburgh Steelers rookie nose tackle Alameda Ta'amu was arrested and charged with trying to flee police after a wild car chase that allegedly included alcohol and multiple hit parked cars.
Channel 11 News obtained the criminal complaint, which indicates Ta'amu drove a car on the wrong side of the street and blew through red lights. When police tried to pull him over, Ta'amu reportedly drove his car at them. The police considered shooting, but did not because the large number of pedestrians and motorists around.
Ta'amu hit five different vehicles as he tried to get away from police, according to the report. One woman in one of those cars was injured.
"One officer was concerned that Ta'amu was reaching for his waistband, so he punched him in the face," the report reads.
Ta'amu took a blood alcohol test and registered a .196 percent. That's twice the legal limit. Ta'amu was a fourth-round pick of the Steelers this year. He has been inactive for each game.
Information about the arrest was not immediately available from the Pittsburgh Police Department.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Ta'amu is facing felony counts of fleeing police, aggravated assault while driving drunk and three counts of aggravated assault. He also faces ten misdemeanors including resisting arrest, attempting escape, drunken driving and to failure to obey traffic laws.

What atrocious officiating....refs just have no idea how to handle this game. Claiborne gets shoved (and injured) defending the receiver, defensive PI called. Yeah right.

Matt Stafford is just awful this year.
Not sure what the hell the Lions are doing this year but they are pretty close to throwing this year away.
