They've both won World Series in the past 7 years, they've both won multiple division championships in that span, and they both have fairly stacked rosters.

Detroit hasn't won a WS in the past 7 years and SF certainly doesn't have a stacked roster.

What made Cincinatti a good storyline?

The Tigers haven't won in 28 years and this is their second Central Division championship after years of futilty. SF won recently, but their rise is a relatively new phenomenon.

Neither are perennial contenders.

I think San Fran and New York are both much more talented and deeper teams.

The Giants have won 5 divisional titles since 1995 and one appearance as a wild card if you call 6/18 perennial. As moon stated they are definitely not stacked.

The Tigers are an entirely different ball of wax - 3 times since 1995 using the same time frame as above but those 3 have all come since 2006. 3/18 in the postseason.

The Yankees 17/18 in the postseason with 4 of them being wild card.

The Cards are 10/18 with 3 being wild card.

I too can go with Yankees and Cards but no on the Tigers and Giants.

'95 was used as the cut off for no reason other than that there were no playoff in 94. Numbers may be out a bit as well as I only looked quickly.

(Go Giants)

I want the Cardinals to win simply to be able to laugh at the loser Pujols.

He has two rings and a mattress made out of $100 bills. I'm sure he'll be alright.

It's all observational, so it would differ from person to person, but this was a team that was built from the ground up, still a lot of fresh faces, a franchise without much success the last two decades. They had such a great regular season, outside of Votto were built like a true team and it was the first chance for a lot of people to watch them.

I guess because they are kind of a rival that I see them as a team full of d-bags that are completely unlikable with one of the all time worst managers around.

Still like Walt Jockety but he seems to be about the only likable part of that team.
