Seconded here. Generally like to see what the new updates are for myself and read any reviews that might be available. There's always been the odd time when updating was the worst thing to do... (I'm looking at you Crunchyroll)

Its not unreal at all when you consider Apple has a dedicated core of people who would buy a turd if it happened to have the Apple logo on it. I'm actually surprised its not more lopsided than that.

Yeah, I'm really wondering why someone would look at this and go "Unreal!". The iPhone is an established brand going on 6 years now. It's not only one of the most recognized phones, it's one of the most recognized products period.
Unless.. you know..

You also have to remember that the Android and even the Samsung user base is split between several devices. Meanwhile, IPhone users get one choice per year. If you want to make a fair comparison you should at the very least add all the Samsung devices put out in a 1 year cycle phase. I don't think Samsung should be punished for providing flexibility and choice across a wide range of models.

I don't think either of these is too surprising at all to be honest.
Mathematically, the Apple tablet share could only go down - everybody and their dog have tried to hop on the bandwagon to put out a tablet in the last two years. And with little success in the scale of the overall market. Sure, there are some sales but nearly every single company has lost money on the process. To be fair, the Kindle is a little different as they're basically selling something at cost to give a tightly controlled window into their store. Isn't 90-95% of all tablet internet traffic from iPads? What the heck are the other tablets doing?
But it's just like the earlier discussion about the "small" iPhone market share: 17% of the marketshare but 80% of the total profits from that market - umm hell yah. Nearly everybody else is losing money just to hold some share of the pie.
As for the phone, I assume demand remains very hefty - not surprising that it make up a large volume of traffic by now. I'd be curious if they broke out the traffic/usage from various models of Samsung phones and iPhones (3, 4, 4s, 5)
That being said, the above is me just musing out loud regarding the business numbers. In hindsight, this is probably not the thread to place this in.

I think the ipad mini is overhyped and when they announce it on Oct 23, the stock price is going to be reflected.

The profit numbers are a bit misleading, as profit can equal more than 100% in a situation where various companies are putting up negative numbers:
http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/...phone-profits/
Basically, what it breaks down to is Apple, HTC, and Samsung are making money. Everyone else is losing. This includes RIM, Nokia, and Motorola.
You've got a situation where the former giants in the industry are now unprofitable and being replaced by new more innovative companies.
Now keep in mind these numbers were released in Q2 one month after the release of the S3 and before the Iphone5 hit the market. Things may have changed substantially since then. Both companies would have put in substantial research money and the S3s sales took more of a steady approach. They crossed 10 million sales in 2 months and 20 in 3 months.
I'm interested to see how they include costs when deciding who has the most profit. Apple would have invested a huge amount of R&D putting out their first IPhones and then potentially slowed and upped R&D with various models. Therefore, you'd expect the new entrants to the market (AKA Samsung) to have to spend more on R&D to enter and potentially less as they build on models.
Also, are costs measured as they are accrued or are they split over each phone sale. In the latter case you'd expect the profits to rise as time goes on and more phones are sold. You also have a lot more money spend on marketing initially, which is recouped over time as more units are sold.

"Hey look at this chart that shows how many more Android phones are being sold than I-pHon3s!"
"Yeah! That's cause we're awesome!"
"Well I don't know... this web-tracking study shows that the one-month old iPhone 5 is producing a greater share of web traffic then the Galaxy S3 Nexus XR7-101TF9."
"Yeah but that's because of all the Apple fan boys who don't know any better."
You guys are awesome.

But don't you think there is a ton of truth in that? It would be interesting to see a survey done on people who bought the iPhone5 - I'd like to know how many of them actually shopped the iPhone5 against other phones. If people are pre-ordering them and/or buying them on day one or two, then they are not making an informed decision and are only buying it because it's an Apple product.
Actually, why am I bothering...of course you're not going to consider that.

The mood of the thread always swings so negatively that apparently we need this reminder fairly often.

Here's your survey. It's not because people don't know what else is out there, it's because they enjoy using an iPhone.
Can't Android users at least understand that not everyone needs a torrent client on their phone?

Yea, less than ideal but JD does those annually.
Here's another I found along the way, more recent. Different topic - Probably another reason people are choosing iPhone.
