Give me decent odds and I'll take that bet. Phelps still won more medals (6) than any athlete at these games. If he does want to come back in 2016 I see him as the favorite in a few races, and not just an "outside shot". 31 for a swimmer is not that old; he'd still be capable of winning 4+ medals, and pick up gold medals on all the relay teams.

Phelps idolizes Jordan, so I am sure he witnessed both the good and the bad in coming out of retirement.

Bolt shouldn't be arguing with Rogge about being a legend. "Yes, damnit I am a legend! I am legendary! I have done everything I need to do to be considered a legend! I am a LEGEND!!!"

What would we say if Sidney Crosby said that?

Bolt may well be a legend... BUT IT'S NOT FOR HIM TO SAY. *PLENTY* of people would have taken Rogge to task for his silly comments. There are enough people saying that Bolt is a legend that he doesn't have to go around tooting his own horn.

And that whole "I am the greatest athlete to ever live" is just so disrespectful towards others, particularly those of other disciplines. Is being able to run 100 or 200 metres the only measure of an athlete? I'd love to see Bolt compete in a triathlon, something that shows off your general athleticism, not just dominance in one very small, tiny, minuscule portion of "athletics".

Personally, I think he's an ass.

Crosby can't say that though even if he wanted to, he plays on a team sport. Sure he doesn't have to say because we all can say it and see it. He is the greatest athlete ever. There is a reason the 100 metre is the marquee event of the olympics, summer and winter. Insane Bolt!!

Boy do I hate to rehash this thread but I just opened my email to get one from Canada Soccer. Christine Sinclair has been suspended four (!!) games and fined for her comments after the US game. I had no idea where else to post this.

Go FIFA. You rock.

Imagine if she punched someone...like Andrade did to Wambach at the Olympics. She got two games.

Now if the IOC was actually the NHLPA and Sinclair was guys like Stajan and BizNasty speaking drivel about the lockout, everyone would be better off.

I almost wonder if there is more to the story then just her fiery interview/comments on the field after the game or yelling at the ref after the game (as everyone on the team was doing that).

For that type of suspension, its usually extra "abuse" of an official.... if she grabbed or pushed or threatened the ref in anyway, 4 games is probably what would be handed out.

I was able to get a little more information. FIFA believes Canada, Sinclair specifically, accused them of fixing the match. When she went to her meeting last week, they asked for an apology and wanted her to back down from saying that the ref had made the decision of the match's winner before the start of the game. She said no and wouldn't retract what she said in August.

Sinclair has a media availability scheduled for Monday morning to discuss it. The CSA has asked for an explanation from FIFA, but my opinion of CSA is only slightly above that of FIFA. It's all political as everyone likely knows.

Although I didn't keep my eyes on Sinclair the whole time after the post game, she didn't touch her in anyway. Tancredi spoke to her very very closely, but no physical contact was made. But like you said, there could be more to this that none of us there saw or are aware of.

Well, FIFA (and any sports league/body) is pretty sensitive about the term "match fixing". Its one thing to say as much in the heat of the moment to the ref, its another to re-iterate it a couple months later to a FIFA panel.

And yes, I didn't see any contact, but the cameras were all over the place at the end of the match IIRC, and as much chasing the Canadians were doing of the ref, the cameras didn't really focus on that, so who knows what happened (or didn't).

If its just the match fixing allegation, and she would've backed down from the term match fixing last week, she probably would've gotten a game or two, not 4.

Agreed. Match fixing is in the spotlight big time right now.

The whole thing is a little frustrating: waiting until October to do something about it and the fact someone who punched out another player at the Olympics only got a two game suspension.

It is what it is (I do hate that phrase - but I feel it applies).

I'm curious what she'll say on Monday.
