wranglers GDT: Abbotsford vs. Peoria (8pm MT)

ABBOTSFORD HEAT (0-0-0-0) vs. PEORIA RIVERMEN (0-0-0-0)

Game-Time: 7pm PT / 8pm MT
TV: Nada
Radio: TeamRadio.ca and Sirius/XM (and Sportsnet 960 The Fan)

The 2012-13 American Hockey League season kicks off on Friday night, and the Abbotsford Heat (the #1 affiliate of YOUR Calgary Flames) begin their fourth season of existence in battle against the Peoria Rivermen.

The Heat and Peoria played each other four times last season, with the Heat escaping with just a pair of points by way of shootout losses. Despite being dominated by the Rivermen, Abbotsford made the playoffs and Peoria did not - the Heat finished 10 points north of Peoria in the standings.

Abbotsford Roster:
G: Barry Brust, Leland Irving & Danny Taylor
D: Chris Breen, T.J. Brodie, Joe Callahan, Brady Lamb, Steve McCarthy, Zach McKelvie & Joe Piskula
F: Akim Aliu, Sven Baertschi, Carter Bancks, Lance Bouma, Paul Byron, David Eddy, Adam Estoclet, Michael Ferland, Roman Horak, Krys Kolanos, Quintin Laing, Greg Nemisz, Brett Olson, Max Reinhart, Tyler Ruegsegger, Ben Street, Dustin Sylvester & Ben Walter
Keep An Eye On: Sven Baertschi, making his AHL debut following a fantastic stint in the WHL with the Portland Winterhawks.

Peoria Roster:
G: Jake Allen & Mike McKenna
D: Taylor Chorney, Ian Cole, Mark Cundari, Cade Fairchild, Scott Ford, Brett Ponich, Brett Regner & David Shields
F: Sergei Andronov, Jay Barriball, Chris Bruton, Adam Cracknell, Stefan Della Rovere, Evgeny Grachev, T.J. Hensick, Phil McRae, Andrew Murray, Derek Nesbitt, Anthony Nigro, Trevor Nill, Anthony Peluso, Jaden Schwartz & Sebastian Wannstrom
Keep An Eye On: Jaden Schwartz, a former NCAA star who looked quite good for the Blues at the end of last season.

TV- no TV but the game's on AHL Live. $6.99 for the single game or other packs available. I'm not sure of the video quality though.

Not yet, probably will closer to the game though.

Here's a couple interesting tidbits from an article in the Province though:

Quote:
Heat coach Troy Ward will play the 5-foot-11, 187-pound winger [Baertschi] with Ben Street and Dustin Sylvester against the Peoria Rivermen tonight and Saturday.
Quote:
Glut of goalies: The Heat have three stoppers and you'd think Leland Irving, groomed to be Miikka Kiprusoff's backup, should play ahead of Danny Taylor and Barry Brust. But Taylor backstopped the Heat in the postseason and the NHL lockout has created a crease conundrum. "We're merit-based," said Ward, who wouldn't name his starter. "There's a lot that goes into it and Brust might be more capable than the other two we've got."

Elsewhere tonight, the Providence College Friars host Sacred Heart in their season-opener and the NCAA debuts of Flames 2012 picks Mark Jankowski and Jon Gillies.

Boston College plays on Saturday, as does the ECHL affiliate of the Flames and Heat, the Utah Grizzlies.

I got the AHL Live team pass during the playoffs. It was actually pretty good. Sometimes there's synching issues with the video and audio, but the picture quality is pretty good for a webcast.

Apparently I haven't been paying enough attention to the Heat lately, I had no idea Steve MCCarthy was there on a tryout. Hope he does well tonight.

Hoping for a good game and maybe some production for our top guys (Sven, Max), but I know I have to keep my expectations in check. Let's get the win.

AHL Live really depends on the arena. Sometimes it complete garbage, other times, not so much.

I can't remember, if I buy the game tonight, can i rewatch later in the evening? I have to play hockey at 9, but I can't miss this game!

Oh god that scares me. Hopefully not, the little bit of one game I watched last year it did not seem to be the case but its a pretty small sample space.

Some are, I've seen some ugly ones, Abbotsford is decent, they use Ryan Pinders radio broadcast for the PBP
