Faced my share of bullies as a kid but I can't even imagine this level of emotional brutality with social media availability these days. The faceless keyboard has really created some monsters out there.
All these new friends are just people sharing and liking a facebook page who never knew her in RL. From her story it seems all her friends dropped her when she became the laughing stock of the school.
What really gets me is following her when you have already chased her away to another school and city just to continue to ridicule her. I just can't fathom how people can do this.
And that is why when I have kids, no Facebook, webcams, cell phones or their own computer until 16. I was bullied enough growing up without those things, I can't imagine what it would of been like if Facebook was around
Thoughts and prayers to her family

Sad. I can't even imagine being a teenager these days, with social media & the internet. It's amazing how bullies go silent and become all caring and shocked when their mission has been accomplished.
Watch it while you can because youtube already took down the original. This girl made this video to send an important message and it is an insult to her and that message for youtube to keep hunting this video down and deleting it. Shame on you youtube.

As a parent to a kid who is not at that age yet, I don't seem to understand why more parents aren't caught beating the hell out of, kidnapping, killing some of these bully kids. Maybe the parents aren't big fans of their kids either? Are they just really unlikeable kids, even to their parents?
How are the parents supposed to know if the kid won't tell them? At 16 years old, there's a lot of things they don't tell their Mom and Dad. I know a lot of #### went on with me and school when I was that age and I never told my parents a single thing.

That was pretty heart wrenching - I don't know what would have to be going through someone's mind for them to hear that someone attempted suicide and for the response to be - I hope she kills herself next time. That is just abhorrently disgusting on every level possible. I can't comprehend aspect at all, the seriousness is painfully evident to everyone and yet they would continue.
The other part in that story - the first being who asks someone in grade 7 to flash them - and then post the images around the internet. I really hope that they find that guy and charge them with child pornography or something along those lines because that is just gross for lack of a better word, not shocking by any stretch of the imagination but gross nonetheless.

I hate to sound cynically because I know that this is a real problem, but it would seem there has to be more to this story. With the way kids act these days, 10 year old wearing make-up and mini skirts, the age that kids start having sex... how could one girl, living in a big city like Vancouver, be ridiculed so much for showing her boobs to a dude on the internet?
And this went on from Grade 7, so 12 years old, until she was almost 16?
How is it that the person extorting her on Facebook, and posting pics of her breasts was never persued?
#1 telling her to put on a show or he will send the pics to everyone has to be illegal, doesn't it?
#2 posting picture of a minors breasts on Facebook has to be illegal too...
I would like to say I am shocked that kids can be this brutal but I'm not. Kids used to be able to get away from bullying but with the internet, cell phones, social media everything kids do is available for all their peers to see.

I would say that with all the good social media can do, it's really compounded the bullying issue, especially when it comes to the general parental cluelessness about it. Even when the child moves away, they can still be hounded on social media by the same people that tormented them before. Those people can easily spread the word to those kids that live in the new town, at the new school, etc., and the reasons for the bullying can be broadcast to an unprecedented number of people than it ever could be before.

Kids are cruel and relentless, her parents should have moved out of Coquitlam and deleted her facebook account. I hope the people that bullied her carry that guilt for the rest of their lives, though I doubt it, only the most shallow would tell someone to kill themselves.
A friend of mine posted this, and I think she's right on the mark.

Maybe it's time to start focusing our attention on why our children feel it's okay to be so relentless and cruel in their hatred of another person. I know there's always been bullies and maybe it's just playing out more publicly now in this generation but then I think of all the reality shows which showcase adults bullying and being cruel to one another. Magazines that are constantly reporting th... e downfall of celebrities whether they've cheated or gained weight or lost weight. We've created a reality where it's okay to focus on everyone's shortcomings and spread the news.
Facebook and twitter are covered with links to tragic stories like this and yet, how often do we hear stories like the young boy that, just two days ago, was honored by Stephen Harper for starting a backpack project for underprivileged children. I can't even find an article to link because the only way I know about it is because someone I know happened to be there and told me.
Like the Romans we are entertained by cruelty, violence and shock. How would things look today and how many bullying stories would we hear about if we stopped following the lives of socialites with sex tapes and started focusing on the people who are actually making positive changes and pointing us to the good in humanity, because it is there.

a tragic story for sure, hopefully those that were involved are looking at themselves in the mirror today. I watched a portion of the video and scanned some of the comments on Youtube, and wow, some people out there really want attention with thier negative comments.
Nyah's friends comments are certainly thought provoking as well.

I believe from the video she mentioned moving schools, homes, and even cities several times and each time someone tracked her down to do it all again. So her parent's definitely knew. Not saying it would be 100% possible for them to ban her from social media but I would have tried my best to remove them it from there life at least for several years.
I agree there is a lot more to the story but I can't fathom what she could have possibly done to deserve this kind of continuous torment. She was a kid who just wanted to belong and be a kid. She made some bad decisions to try and fit in but what happened to her is criminal.
Still many questions though. Were the people who tried to extort her on facebook the same people who tracked her from school to school? Was there any investigation into child porn charges for these people?
I think people in general, and kids especially, just don't fully realize the impact that this is having.
When you are with a person and start giving them a hard time you know how hard you can push based on the person's reaction - do they grimace, blush, frown, etc. There are lots of physical queues we use but none of those exist with online technology.

I often wonder if it's "kids these days" or if it's that through technology we have a more clear image of what they're up to.
First off, what a disturbing/troubling story .
Secondly, Russic, i'm with you. Kids have always been cruel, and that won't change.
What has changed is this new online world that has been created. Having an email account, you tube, twitter, facebook, etc, etc, etc, has resulted in a person's actions/mistakes to suddenly be broadcasted very very easily.
This could have easily happened to anyone, not necessarily a teenager. How many young proffesionals are out getting totally hammered on your average Saturday night? Someone using their smartphone at the right time and right place, and boom, the video is being used to blackmail the person otherwise the video will be put on facebook/youtube/etc, where it will be seen by family, relatives, co-workers, etc!
This means everyone needs to be wary of this, and more importantly we need to be teaching this to our children before they hit their teens.
feel very bad for this girl, and also am getting even more nervous about becoming a father soon.
