Default Bill C-30: Cops want you to pay new tax for them to spy on you.

http://www.michaelgeist.ca/content/view/6379/125/

Bill C-30, the biggest bullshii in the name of the children, and the police want you to pay for their warrentless wiretapping!

Quote:
The CACP adopted the position that law enforcement should not have to pay for the associated costs claming it "brings the administration of justice into disrepute." Instead, it proposed three alternatives:
  • the telecom companies and Internet providers could pass along the costs in the form of a "public safety tariff" that would apply on monthly consumer bills
  • the government could provide tax credits to telecom companies and Internet providers
  • the government could establish a federal funding pool to cover the costs
The government said no to these, but then where does the money come from? Perhaps they're just waiting till it passes to avoid backlash before they take the police's suggestions?

Please don't pass this bill.

Pretty sure this is in violation of the Charter, but who cares the Conservatives have a majority With the robocall scandal and possible election fraud we cant even say for certain whether this government is legitimate. So my question is how can any laws be passed until this is cleared up? These new laws should be put on hold at least until Elections Canada is finished with the investigation.

This is Canada's SOPA/PIPA. APOS would be a more appropriate name.

I can't say I'm really surprised...if the law was to be brought in, they obviously should have thought the cost associated with it. The government said no to all the options, so I don't really see how this is newsworthy other than the bill itself. Of course the CACP would want to shift the cost to someone else.

This wired article is a must read. The NSA has recorded every cell call, email, financial transaction and so on going back at least ten years. In september 2013 they plan on having the capability to mine it all.

To quote the article, "We are this far from a turnkey totalitarian state"
