Default Rec Sports Team - Politics

so this post is a half vent/half question.

i have been playing on my mens rec hockey team for about 12 yrs and for the most part i enjoy the team and the guys i play with and our league has good ice times.

for the first time i am really struggling to deal with one other player who is being a complete d1ckhead to me - making comments on how the team would be better off with out me playing, constantly criticizng my play etc and it is really starting to grind my gears. to me the criticism has a serous undertone, versus a fun/joking one.

i am stuggling weather or not to deal with it the issue - i don't really want to cause a political situation within the team - not do i really want to find out if he is speaking for himself or the team. at this stage of my career, i am generally more of a liability than an assest, but that being said, there are llikely two guys on the team that are slightly below me, and two others that are equal (I'd put this guy at the top of the bottom third of the team).

anyone have any thoughts, or humourous or non-humourous suggestions.

Please feel free top question my sporting ability.

If you're playing at a lower level, then tell the guy to get bent. If he want's competative, then why's he playing beer league hockey? I'm sure the scouts in the stands will see his natural talent and he'll be getting paid to play in no time.

If you're playing at a high level, then talk to the guy running the team. He asked you back, so he must not think you're too bad.

we are playing div 4 in our league - there is no div 5.

team tradition is that if you pay your fee you are welcome back. if your not paid up by the start of the season, a replacement may be found.

i can only assume that he is still bitter with me as last year I was playing wing, he was playing center and I made a high hard pass meat to go across the ice to the toehr singer and he skated in the path of the pass and took it in the hip. He threw a tantrum in my direction when we were on the bench after the shift. while I understood his frustration, my thought is that it is hockey, and I am not an NHL level player, stuff happens - and unfortunately it happened to you this game. He was sore for about two weeks, but he never missed a game. I apologized, but he still seems annoyed......

your teammate is a wanker.

Give him a few more high hard passes off the hip (or cup) and see if he's still talking smack.

You're in the worst division in your league?

Tell him to get lost. If he is so great, he should be playing in a better division. If he chooses to play in the lowest division, he should not only tolerate playing with bad players but expect it. What kind of a high end player is obssessed with winning in the worst division.

That being said, he could just be joking and lack social skills though....who knows.

Also, the fact you are capable of throwing a high hard pass with any kind of accuracy suggests you can't be as bad as your are letting on. You're obviously not an ankle breaker.

Yeah really. A puck on the hip? From a pass? And you're gonna cry about it? These types of people are much more detrimental to a team than someone who is slightly less talented. What a grade A d-bag. Tell him to eff off.

You pay several hundreds of dollars every season to play rec hockey to have fun. Anyone who's trying to take that away from you should be called out and you shouldn't need to feel anything about it. Chances are, you aren't the only person in the room who feels the same way.

You wouldn't tolerate that type of behaviour from your family, friends or colleagues (I hope) so why would you tolerate that from some hissy fitting dbag?

No kidding, what kind of pads is this guy wearing that a pass - not a shot, a PASS, to the pants is worth moaning about? Next time he's near the net see how he likes a slapper to the laces.

I manage my team and I'm at the point now where I'd rather play with good guys rather than guys that are good at hockey but are d bags. we've had a guy or two in the past act like this guy and they weren't invited back to the team. It's just not worth wasting your time with guys like this with the amount of money we pay for rec hockey here in Calgary.

Just smile and grin everytime he goes ballistic on you. He's expecting you to lose it and doing the opposite will drive him crazy.

Next time he says something, grab a handful of gatorade poweder and throw it in his eyes. While he is blinded, proceed to beat the living piss out of him.
