Getting a sign placed on highway?

There is a stretch of road from Redwood Meadows to the transcanada that is constantly littered with large deer and moose roadkill. Its got to be >1 per week.

However, there is no signage that indicates to motorists to be on the lookout for deer. If there was ever a place for a sign like this this stretch of road would be it.

How does a citizen request a sign like this? Who do you talk to?

seems funny to me that in an area that is bordered by wide open space that you need to ut up a sign to watch for moose/deer/wildlife.

I guess common sense remains not all that common?

In the book "Traffic", the writer discusses how it was discovered in a study that posting more/bigger signs warning about wildlife didn't make much of a difference. The only way they managed to get a significant change was to put roadkill beside the signs. I doubt most jurisdictions will go THAT far.

I'm also realistic that a sign will have limited effect on the driving behaviour and the carnage...but what else can you do?

Those signs are such a waste of money.
You are either smart enough to be aware of deer, or your not, but in the end there is a lot of luck involved as well.

But how will the deer know where to cross if there isn't a sign?

I think that deer are one of those things that every driver should be aware of as a possibility, but if there is higher than normal activity in a particular area, I don't see a problem with a sign warning motorists of such. Whether they notice and/or heed the warning is up to them, but I'd like to think that someone that doesn't drive that road often would appreciate the heads up. Although many drivers are too distracted, rushed, or complacent to think about things like that, some do actually read the odd sign or two - especially on roads that aren't part of the daily commute.

You are kidding yourself if you think you see every deer on the side of the road when you're driving unless you are going half the speed limit.

I was in a car that hit a deer and ever since then I've been EXTREMELY vigilant for deer but I've had a few moments at night where I missed the deer and someone else in my car spotted it.
