Agreed. Time to give Flynn not just a start but a three or four game committment. RW is not progressing very rapidly and the limited play book they've given him is not helping much. Seahawks gave up way too may big plays on defense, especially on third down, to expect to win. Team discipline is also a huge factor. Its maddening to see a team that was always so disciplined under Holmgren come apart at critical times under Carrol. Giacomini is a candidate to sit a game or two and see if someone else can do the job with better discipline. Surprsingly Okung 1) played the whole game and 2) didn't get even one false start that I saw.

Flynn must have had a really shaky training camp for them to go with a true rookie, they probably do need to make a change. with the 49ers and the surprising play of Arizona, 8-8 will no longer cut it...

Flynn didn't have a shaky training camp. Wilson had an outstanding one + Flynn had a sore elbow to start the season.

Close score, but only thanks to some costly penalties on offense that negated 3+ 30 yard + plays in the first half, and only a 6-3 lead, even though they held Newton to a handful of passing yards.
The a 2nd half kickoff fumble, followed by a poor Wilson Pick 6, and Seattle was unbelievably down, having given up 10 points just like that.
But, the defense continued to shut down Newton. Irvin showing has value with a few sacks. But Brandon Browner made 2 game changing plays. First, a strip and recover of D'angelo Williams, playing the option with Newton perfectly. Seattle goes down and scores the go ahead TD.
Secondly, he stops that Panther receiver from crossing the goal line with 3 mins to go with a big hit. Sets up 4th and goal...and Newton with a horrible throw at the feet of the 3rd string TE basically sealed it.
Wilson played better, they opened the playbook to him a bit, but the first half didn't get the points required and that almost cost him in the second half. Baby steps.
On the other side, not a lot from the Panthers. Newton looks horrible...out of sync, scared, whatever...looks lost and lacking any confidence out there.
But the big story is the defense of this Seattle team.
The corners are playing as good or better than last year. Browner making much less mistakes and penalties, and the two big plays, and Sherman looking great. Both frustrated Steve Smith and drew him into penalties.
The pass rush, with us Seahawks fans haven't seen for 5 years, is back. Clemons, Wright, both the line and the LB are getting constant pressure of opponent QB's. Irvin his finally showing the reason why he was a first round pick. Defense is just punishing offenses with speed and power.
Bottom line, this is now statistically the best defense in the NFL in yards per game. Top 4 in rushing, passing, and points against. Given up the least # of defensive TD's in the league.
Sets up a great matchup next week, at home, vs Brady and the Pats.

A great outing for Wilson today. Brady made our defense look fairly ordinary for the first 55 minutes of the game. Three way tie for first with a HUGE game on Thursday against the Whiners!

Seattle's defense, while giving up all those passing yards, still intimidated Brady. 2 INT's, 2 intentional grounding calls, 1 of which took points off the board.
Browner nailing Welker set the tone. Brady got a roughing the passer called in the 3rd, and didn't really do much after that.
Great to see the long ball finally back. They have the receivers who seems to do better running those routes as opposed to the inside routes, so use those strengths then making those guys go into spots that they're not comfortable with, for better or worse.
Big game Thursday obviously....SF and the division lead, sure, but in the bigger picture, SEA cannot really afford to slip to 0-3 in the division for potential tie breakers down the road.

All the division games are on the road thus far, so slipping to 0-3 wouldn't be the end of the world. SEA will dismantle SF/ARI/STL at QWest

when they drafted him, i figured even if he was a part time player but a great pass rusher, its worth it.... you look at some decent teams out there like NE and they cant get to the QB and it exposes the whole defense

Seattle goes to 6-4 going into bye. So so game today but took over the game in then second half and put the Jets away, who are brutal with the Sanchez Tebow mix.
Tate threw a TD pass to Rice; Rice said the mechanics and delivery of Tate made him think he was getting the pass from Tebow.
Wilson first rookie QB since 1970 to win first 5 home games.
Seattle's only other 5-0 home start was the Superbowl year.
Third game this year where the Seattle defense hasn't given up an offensive TD.
The 49ers result cracked open the door a bit. With the Bills and Dolphins and Bears, and 3 games against the NFC West all at home, 4-2 for 10-6 is not out of the question which would be in the hunt for the wild card.
Can't say enough about Wilson. Sometimes holds onto ball for too long in pocket, but is well prepared for each game, smart in-game with decisions and doesn't get too high and low. For a pure rookie, very very solid.

Wilson has looked dominant at home. Looking at their schedule they should be able to get at least 10 wins....

Crushing loss today.
Dull first half, but Russel Wilson completed 16 in a row stretching into the 4th.
A Seahawks INT in the endzone when up by 7 was tough...Earl Thomas jumping to block the pass had momentum carry into Tannehill and got a roughing the passer and negated the INT. MIA got a TD next play.
Leon Washington got his NFL tying 8th kickoff return right after that, but then the Dolphins offense marched down the field to tie it again with about 4 mins to go. Seattle defense looked poor.
Wilson got the ball back and marched down to within 6 yards of decent fg range...but then an ill advised short pass lost 5 yards on 2nd down, and then Wilson took a stupid sack on third down, knocking SEA out of FG range. Seattle's defense with a let down again, letting Miami march 60 yards for the game wining FG in the last 80 seconds.
Big loss with the Bears win...making next weeks game in Chicago crucial for the Wild Card. Seattle still has Buffalo, Rams, Cards and 49ers...but the tie breaker with Chicago may be required...although I guess Seahawks fans wouldn't mind the Bears going on a run and taking that division, as Seattle holds the tie breaker over the Packers for the WC.
Still, the first game this season where the defense got walked all over when the game was on the line...two long TD drives and then the game winning FG drive in the 4th quarter with the game on the line.

That was such a BS call on Wagner's second INT. Thomas never touched Tannenhill's head. SCHEISSE!

+1 ^ Browna's post. This game more than amply demonstrated how far the hawks have to go to be a real contender. No Lynch rushing success, no Seahawks win. The defence that started so dominant gives up way too many big plays and seems to have lost the ability to step up and get the crucial stop. Very good teams don't lose these kinds of winnable games with the regularity that the Seahawks do. Major disappointment today.

He hit Tannehill's head with his forearm, marginal call but the ref will call it every time.

Very marginal. I rewatched that a few times and still didn't really see head contact.

Marginal for sure and two years ago or so its not a penalty and to his credit Tannehill didn't roll around or look for a flag.
Seattle's defense was gassed in the 4th on a hot day after a bye week, the only explanation for their worst performance of the year. And/Or they knew the Browner (I'm wearing his Stamps jersey still from the GC) and Sherman had the suspensions looming.
Doesn't get any easier weatherwise, now they get to go play at frigid Soldier Field next week.
An absolute disaster of a day of football for me with the NFL and CFL results and now the PED news.

Shamelessly bumping this thread back to page 1 in order to encourage some in game discussion. I'm excited that we control our own destiny, and with SF still having to travel to NE and Seattle, it is not unrealistic to say we have a good chance to win the NFC West outright. Still, today's home game against the Cards is anything but automatic. Classic trip up game scenario, and the Arizona D will be tough.
