Fair enough, and I see your point - but imagine if all the bullied kids from 2012-all the way back to the 1970's demanded appologies from school officials for yearbook jabs and things like that. I think it's a little ridiculous, but that's just my opinion.

My cool story bro that is somewhat relevant here...
For my grade 9 graduation (which in of itself is one lame ass concept), the teachers would have each student leave the class one at a time while the other students came up with a slogan or phase to be said when each student was introduced at the grad- virtually every line for the less popular kids was something insulting- in a "clever" way though that the teachers were uninformed to.
One of the slogans for one of the most unfortunate kids was "likes to be treated like a king"... which was code for the number of times a group of boys would gang up on him and kick the snot out of him Rodney "King" style- for which they coined the phrase "treated like a King"...
what an embarrassment our society can be

Thankfully I don't judge our society based upon what kids in grade 9 do.

I'll add in my own "cool story bro" story:
- One person I know pretty well had been targeted by the yearbook group in my High School graduating year. Each picture of him in public setting (as in, ones they had control over. There was no control over the pages with just lists of students) had a different font of Wingdings (a font of nothing but characters of no language meaning) inserted into it via paint or photoshop with an insulting comment. I've forgotten most of them, but I know one of them read "I have no friends". This sort of thing was too subtle for the supervising teacher to catch, which is how it got into the yearbook.

You can offer one of those corporate apologies that just basically says sorry for "what you feel" or "what you interpreted" or "what you perceived" to be a bad experience. It's saying sorry without really saying sorry. They're perfect for these types of situations and take like five minutes to write. I'll do it right now:
Quote:
Dear F*g,
As principal of Random High School, I would like to offer a sincere apology for what you feel was a humiliating and dehumanizing experience here. Unfortunately, I can't make accountable those directly responsible; however, on behalf of this institution I want to assure you that we hold ourselves to a higher standard and will work hard to provide a more positive experience for our current student body.
Sincerely,
Principal

I dissagree.
You can be sorry something occurred, ie: I am sorry our two vehicles smashed into each other without accepting "guilt". In this case though I would assume or hope the year booked was vetted by the school.

Yeah, but you're deferring the "sorry" in a way. "I am sorry you feel that way" is different than "I am sorry". Maybe semantics, but...

Kids will be always be jerks, always. In my high school the class president would organize his friends to surround the kid with mental and physical disorders and tell him they were playing games, then they'd kick basketballs at his head as hard as they could. Kids are terrible terrible people, most snap out of it by 21.

Terminal liver disease. An even better excuse for him to live life to the fullest now, instead of feeling sorry for himself.
It may sound harsh, but if the school districts had to pay the cost for all the students from the past 40 years who thought they were owed an apology to get said apology in person, imagine what that would cost taxpayers. He won't accept a written apology, nor the letter from the current superintendent that expressed regret about what he went through, then highlighted changes made in the school system to help thwart bullying & homophobia. At this point, I doubt anything would appease him, if it's bothered him this much over 42 years.

I'm not so sure about that... I think kids without proper supervision act that way.
I was on the football team in highschool and the changing time from 3-3:15pm in the football locker room was a pretty terrifying experience for a lot of kids, hazing was out of control due to the fact that there was no teacher/adult presence in the locker room. You don't get that behaviour in a monitored English class... you get it when you leave kids to their own cruel and immature devices.
