11 yo girl needing heart and liver transplant gets wish granted . . . kills bear
Well, this is certainly some sort of heart-warming story. . . . A sick 11 year-old girl needing a heart and liver transplant in order to live gets her wish fulfilled. She gets to take the life of another creature! Huzzah! Miracles can happen!

I am truly sympathetic to the girl's plight however I have an issue with granting her this wish.
Killing Black Bears is cruel. Killing any animal that doesnt pose a threat, or doesn't provide you with food / nourishment is barbaric.
I listened to my cousin's boyfriend recant his first Bear kill story.
It was difficult to listen to because the way he described the bear as acting after it was shot was as if it was a human being writhing in pain and crying out for help and trying to get away.

Why did she want to kill a bear?
Usually life dreams or wishes serve some purpose or fulfill some need. This seems cruel and pointless.
They should have been very clear that they could have saved a lot of hospital costs by just sealing her in a cage with the bear.

What are you talking about? Clearly there is no better way to show how you value life and celebrating what little you may have left of it than by taking the life of something else!
I don't even care about whether sport hunting is cruel or necessary or not (well, I do, but that's besides the point in this case), but surely even the pro-hunting crowd has to realize just how perverted a wish fulfilment this is.

I totally got confused by the title of the OP. I assumed her wish was for a new heart and liver, and that somehow they transplanted that from the bear. Then I was gonna go and rag on HP for the outrage of killing a bear vs. saving a girl's life lol. Leaving this thread feeling stupid :'(

I'm no fan of Peta and neither am I an avid hunter but I just wonder how someone who appears to be on borrowed time and likely cherishes life wants to go out and kill something just for fun?
This wreaks like the hunting tourists that go to the game farms to "shoot a fish in the barrel" just so they can say that they felt the thrill of a hunt.

I hope she was able to kill it while in a tree stand looking down at a bait spot. Can't get a much finer hunting experience than that. Nothing like the thrill of dropping a bear while its feeding on a pile of garbage, while you're safe 15 ft above it.

Hunting for sport should be illegal, and punishable by jail time.
This girl needs a new perspective on life just as much as a new heart.

Thats exactly how my Cousin's bf described killing the bear, he had his nose in the food / bait barrel that was left out while he was in a tree stand.
Poor bear was just looking for a snack.

We need more bears in the world and fewer people who think that it is ok to go on canned hunts as some sort of wish fulfilment.

I don't know what strip clubs you frequent, but if they are spotted beavers I would get the EFF out.

Don't worry, the bear doesn't mind; he'll be able to get his revenge soon enough.

I feel sorry for the girl, at her age her parents and environment probably taught her the values she has. its unfortunate that on her last breath she wanted to kill another being.
I still say: Get well soon.
