Exclamation Game Settings Change from Hardcore to Normal

This is an announcement to let everyone know that effective next advance (tomorrow morning), the gameplay will change from 'Hardcore' to 'Normal'.

After several weeks playing on the hardcore settings. It's apparent that many are still having great difficulty with playing the game on that setting; which is ruining the enjoyment for many. Therefore the gameplay will be adjusted so to Normal game style so playability can improve for all users.

The skill level will remain the same at All-Star.

I tried a game out on this setting tonight just to see what it's like. While no mode will be perfect for everybody, I feel this mode is more suitable for the majority of players. I could be falling into the old trap of believing I'm more common than I am, but many of the complaints we've been hearing will be eliminated (or at least lessened) in this mode IMO.

Passing is at least doable for me. I still missed the ones I shouldn't have passed in the first place, but I was no longer hesitant to throw it back to the point. It felt like more of an NHL game in that both sides were making realistic plays. The cpu still had some great cycles, but at least I felt like I could keep up with it.

It's unfortunate we couldn't keep the speed of the old mode and just modify the passing, but the way the settings are this year we can't do that in this mode. It is quite a bit faster and the hitting is made a little more effective. I've noticed mixed reactions on this one. The game I played had fairly realistic hitting with nobody truly getting destroyed, but silentsim mentioned to me that the test he did was like a roller derby. The game I played was with the Canucks, so perhaps not the greatest showing of raw strength.

If your playing offline then it'll seem a lot faster IMO. The setting Jobo has set it up to now is what the online default is set at. Both versus and EASHL are set to All-star/Normal. So playing some versus games online should give you a better idea of the speed given that your playing with an internet connection. I don't think it'll be that much different speed wise. But I do agree, hitting is a little more effective now, which means I can't bull it to the front of the net with Jagr anymore

Not a fan of this at all to be honest, I preferred the way the game played before even though it was a challenge

Me too to be honest but a vocal majority were preferring a change since they couldn't get use to the passing system even after several weeks of play.

Overall this change will help players with their games and let them enjoy the experience more since they aren't getting turned off by passing difficulty.

I prefer Hardcore as well. Not loving the massive boost in hitting.

Are we sure it wasn't a vocal minority rather than a majority?

I'll say. I was able to actually WIN a game! No, seriously. I snapped a 13 game losing streak. Finally.

And it feels more like an NHL game to be honest. With hardcore, everyone just goes end to end all the time without passing at all.

I do recognize the benefit of better easier passing, but I do think the hitting is crazy. small guys pummelling Myers, hehe.

going to lead to many more injuries too from the look of it.

My assumption is you'll find the line separating the line in favour of the change from those opposed at about the team ranked 15th. Just my theory though.

I am also not a fan of normal mode, skill has been removed in favor of hail mary blind passes that hit the streaking player.......Guys like St. Louis being a power hitters and (although people might argue this) there is even less passing than before in the offensive zone.

The comment that this is more realistic is a bit off to me LOL.

There is more passing now than before, IMO. I still find that passes are knocked down and off line at a good enough rate.

I also think the hitting being upped is better and I have not sen little guys pummelling big guys as mentioned. With hardcore, the guys who could figure skate through the whole team were going unpunished and made for very unrealistic play. Some may say that is skill, but every play should not involve one dude carrying the puck end to end, dancing around players and sniping in the top corner. If that is what passes as skill fine, but this at least gives the defense a punchers chance of stopping it.

As EA isn't allowing sliders this year in Connected there's going to be this discussion until 2014. There's no one solution and there's give and take on both sides. Obviously to me the fact that people are passing weighs more heavily than the fact that some of the passes are less realistic. Like Zukes said though, passes aren't going through people and if you're in good position the stretch passes aren't terribly difficult to knock down. Another point is that stretch passes do in fact occur in the NHL. The way we had it before there was rarely a solid tape to tape pass let alone a successful stretch.

The hitting is increased and the speed is too high for my liking as well, but it's a balance thing. I feel hits and increased speed don't impact the actual gameplay as much as the near removal of passing. While the physics of the game may be less realistic, the style of play in my opinion has been much more realistic.
