About 9 years ago, we sat 3 rows behind Bronconnier in Economy on a trip to Cancun.
Not sure if it's comparable, but just thought I'd share a "Cool story bro" story.

I bet that $22 coffee was actually a carafe of coffee for two which included full dairy (skim and cream) in serving pitchers, cubed & brown sugars and two saucered coffee cups with accompanying spoons on a gigantic circular tray that someone brings up from the kitchen and sets up in your room. Its a standard coffee service that in-room dining offers.Once you slap on a delivery charge, tip and taxes it isnt hard to break the $20 mark. For the Waldorf Astoria I expected the bill to be closer to $30.

That is a fair question. Regardless, I don't drink it. I do however find it funny that while it has a great name in English (Kopi Luwak) the direct translation of it's name in Chinese is just "cat #### coffee".
OT, I also see nothing that wrong with her expenses.

I am not outraged at the cost but still think that this stuff should always be posted. Really, the expense accounts of all elected officials and many high ranking public servants should be readily available.

Can somebody explain to me why we needed to spend over half a million to send an entourage of Alberta politicians and "artists" to the Olympics while many of the actual OLYMPIANS from this province are forced to constantly fundraise and even take on loads of personal debt to pursue their Olympic dreams??

I agree that funding athletes and athletic programs is a good thing and that more funding being put into it would have general benefits, but money spent on politicians is also important and their needs are different.

No wonder seats were half empty at the Olympics, everyone was attending the receptions put on by Redford.

I'm not sure how 16 artists and a chef qualify as "needs" for our politicians. I dont think the Premeir should apologize for flying business class and staying in a decent hotel - but $518k for a trip to the London Olympics - thats an insult to our athletes.

Braid: Government bungles hotel booking, expects fiscal praise
Quote:
That’s what happened to the good old Government of Alberta (GoA), when a provincial delegation went to the London Olympics at a total cost of $518,000 (as far as we know.)
Here’s the astounding argument; this is how they turn a huge, useless expense into a “saving.”
Eighteen people who were delegated to go to London did not go.
And why not?
Because the government wanted to save money.
But . . . but . . . $113,000 that was spent on rooms for them is lost forever. How is that a “saving?”
Because, the government people say, $123,000 was not spent as a result of the people not going.
Then they smile. Wasn’t that smart of us?
Government people blithely make such arguments all the time. It can even make you think you’re missing something

The trip itself was less about the Olympics and watching the games and more about business to promoting Alberta industry (Energy and Tourism) to key players at the games.
http://alberta.ca/NewsFrame.cfm?Rele...A7E8D5355.html
The idea was to leverage the cross section of Government Officials and also the Tourism industry big wigs who would all be at the Games. From what I recall there was only one event that ministers went to associated with the Olympic games.

From what I understand (from sources within the government).... Redford was the only premier in the country that went to London.
Not sure why, but that fact creates an "it figures" response.
