$100 gift card for the "public" card and $900 for the dirty envelope he finds taped to the bottom of his keyboard.

A watch is a nice idea but people have such varying preferences in styles. If you had my luck, you'd get him something he hated and he'd just wind up pawning it.

I like the trip idea. With some paid time off?

Yeah, as mentioned earlier flight will eat up a lot of the $1000, I might have to see if i can squeeze out more from the company.

When in 2013? If it's close to our golf season you could always do a nice golf weekend at banff springs or something.

If it's in the dead of winter, I second the watch idea.

Dead of winter. January to be exact, they is why I was thinking a golf trip in March time. Flights on westjet are not too bad, and there should be deals @ Bear Mountain. I just don't want him to have to shell our for extra rounds, kind of defeats the purpose.

Ask him what he wants. I'm serious. What it ruins in terms of the surprise it'll more than make up for when he actually gets what he wants. He's not stupid, I'm sure he knows he's gonna get something.

Go to Golf Town. Get a gift card. Put $10 on it. Give it to him in big ceremony. Pocket $990. Everyone wins.

Give him a WestJet vacation voucher to take a trip somewhere. That's a gift anybody would appreciate.

I think the best gift is something he would never buy for himself but would love to have. So it really depends on the person. Maybe ask someone close to him at work.

Or a chainsaw.

Or.... A $500 escort, and a $500 chainsaw.

$1000 seems a little low ball to me. After 25 years... is that all he is worth? My mom got a travel voucher for her 10 year anniversary. Not sure how much it was worth but it was enough to take her, me, my wife and my 2 sisters to mexico.

Yeah, ask him (or his wife). It may ruin the surprise, but 60 year old men don't give a frack. I had to buy a gift for a guy at my work and it turned out he wanted a fish finder. Who the hell would have known that?

Yep I am gonna do that. Watch was a good idea, but I never see him with one on.

Then you'll have a chainsaw and 2 escorts!

I also like the idea of trying to ask his wife or friends. As much as I know we have a lot of "watch geeks" here on CP; for me a $1000 watch would be a worse gift than a $50 watch. With the expensive watch I would be afraid to wear it; as I tend to break watches. Sure you can say he could use it for special occasions, but every time I have a wedding or something and I go to dig out my expensive watch, I find it needs a battery.

Not if you get an automatic watch.
