Since the building hasn't been dedicated yet, anyone who attends the tours should be free to see the whole building. Once the dedication takes place the building (except for the reception area and visitors centre, if there is one - I know there is in Cardston) is closed to everyone except worthy members of the LDS church. These buildings really are beautiful - anyone who has an appreciation for architecture or craftsmanship really should attend. Also provides a rare opportunity for anyone who isn't Mormon to gain some insight into what the religion believes - especially some of the "weirder" aspects that generally are much more private.

^^^ religions spouting from the Jesus movement use the 10% from old testament writings as a guide. it is symbolic for not being controlled by money, by giving some of it up, you show God that you aren't making money an idol (at least symbolically). of course the church has to pay its staff and bills too (and much of it goes to missionaries and charities and outreach etc depending on the church).

A person is supposed to give willingly, not forced to give a certain amount. God asks for a cheerful giver (which can be difficult)

edit: and yes, most churches will give you a receipt as they are considered charities, so that you can get the tax-writeoff

What they don't tell you is that the "consecrated for the spiritual sanctification" involves ripping out most of the interior, and redoing it. The reasoning is that the stuff can't be made holy again once the public has been inside.

That's why the public isn't allowed in afterwards, because it would get to be expensive to redo the interior every time.

Yes, most churches are registered charities, and give tax receipts.

Yes, 10% of gross and they receive charitable donations receipts for the tax credit.

And, just to stir ye 'ol pot a little I shall share one of my pet peeves as a tax accountant:

The Government subsidizes people's contributions to a non-taxable entity via tax credits. Literally taking it from both sides. Nice.

A quick check on Google shows that it is open for tours until Oct 20, and then being dedicated 8 days later on Oct 28th.

Obviously don't know what is inside there, but no way it is being rebuilt in 8 days...

I work with the company that did the HVAC ductwork at LDS Temple. There is no way they are re-doing everything inside. The last time I voted in an election, was at the mormon church in Cranston...and I'm not a mormon either.

Take the tour, I've seen pictures from co-workers, and they have some interesting sculptures and murals worth seeing.

I’ve been in a Mormon Temple once when my parents has their temple wedding. I don’t remember much about the experience expect that we had this all white one piece robe we had to wear, and the room where the actual ceremony took place had huge mirrors for the walls that reflected off of each other to represent eternity.

Yeah Crowchild just after the Stoney interchange but before 12 mile. For a major road.

Obviously if you take a 2 minute trip into Royal Oak/Rocky Ridge there you can get nice and close.
