Shinkaruk and Pulock are out of the top 10? Ridiculous.

I think Shinkaruk is going to fall a bit because of his awful team.
Lazar has the benefit of being on probably the best CHL team this year.

Lazar is very good. I got to watch him a bit with the Oil Kings. As a 16 year old he was a huge difference maker for the Kings.

Not saying he's not good.. he is definitely a top 10, perhaps top 5 draft pick.
But I do believe he'll get a few extra points from being on such a good team.

Early indications are that this will be a strong draft for centers. Perhaps a good draft to be in the top 10 or trade up into the top 10 for the Flames.

Im a fan of taking the best player available, but the Flames need to add a legit high end defensive prospect. Prospect like Sieloff, Wotherspoon, etc are okay, but are likely at best going to be 4-6 d-men, (maybe a number 3 if everything works out) No real top pairing potential, although id love to be proven wrong in the coming years.

Our Prime Minister has reached new lows... forcing himself onto Craig Button's prospect rankings? Shameful.
In all seriousness though, if the Flames can get in the top-10, they'll get a knockout of a player.

this draft really seems to be great ... I mean, the Flames had #13 and #14 (then traded of course) in the last two drafts - seeing Drouin at 13 and Fucale at 14 makes me excited. A lot of quality players there ... for me personally, Ryan Pulock would be a perfect fit for the Flames.

Don't want the flames to draft a goalie in the first round (Fucale) but beyond that you're right, there is still loads of quality players.

Personally, I feel like the Flames have enough goalies in the system now after last draft.
The Flames have a nice mixture of ages and skill/styles. There's a bunch of young guys who COULD turn out and will take patience (Ortio, Brossoit, Gillies), more than capable backup goalies at the NHL level and possible starters (Irving, Karlsson, Ramo), and of course our prized possession (Kipper). Not to mention wild card AHL guys in Brust and Taylor.

Considering the likelihood of a lottery like 2005 for this draft, I'd be very happy with any one of:
MacKinnon
Jones
Barkov
Shinkaruk
Monohan
Morrissey
Pulock
Lazar
Drouin
Ristolainen
Lindholm
So any top 11 pick I'd very extremely satisfied with in a deep draft like this. If I've done my stats correctly, with 3 balls, we'll average the 10th spot in the draft.

oh, I didn't suggest the Flames should be interested in Fucale ... it's just that he's highly touted and the fact that Button has him at "just" 14 makes me excited because it makes for a pretty deep draft. I'd rather have someone like Shinkaruk, Pulock or Lazar obviously, but who knows how the draft order will look like at the end ...

If Feaster's going to make his mark on his dynasty, it should be this season through this draft. If there's a way to gain first-round picks, it needs to be this season. I just wonder if trading Iggy is the only way...

In the 2005 lottery, every team got at least one ball, but you went down from three for (a) each 1st overall pick you got in the past 4 drafts and (b) each playoff appearance in the past four seasons.
Based on that scheme, the break-down is thus...
-3 balls: Calgary, Columbus, Minnesota, Dallas, Toronto, Carolina, Winnipeg
-2 balls: Anaheim, St. Louis, Colorado, Florida, Tampa Bay, NY Islanders
-1 balls: everyone else
There are 49 balls. 3 ball teams have a 6% chance of 1st overall, 2 ballers have a 4% chance of 1st, 1 ballers have a 2% chance.
EDIT: Forgot the Isles had a #1 pick four years ago.

There are 50 balls. 3 ball teams have a 6% chance of 1st overall, 2 ballers have a 4% chance of 1st, 1 ballers have a 2% chance.

Woodlief: NHL draft crop is one of the deepest in a decade
Quote:
So all in all, we see this draft shaping up as one of the deeper classes of the past decade, with skill and quality still available deep into the second round. And surely that has to be a welcome sight for NHL talent hounds depressed by the absence of hockey in their own buildings.

2 Nathan MacKinnon
3 Sean Monahan
4 Rasmus Ristolainen
5 Elias Lindholm

No team gets extra balls. The balls are merely to establish the draft order of all 7 rounds, after the order is established then the traded picks go to the team who acquired them.
