What's the tipping protocol for take-out? When I picked up dinner tonight I paid by Visa and there was a tipping option. I tipped 7%, much to my spouse's chagrin. He thinks 0% tip is in order when you pick up your own food. Thoughts?

Picking up food = 0%
Having someone serve you food = 15%

Depends how many sides of ranch they give you.
I usually do 5-10% for takeout. Kitchen staff still gets a cut.

Unless I am getting a BJ when I go into the place to pick it up, there is no way I am leaving a tip.
A tip is for good service. At what point does handing you a box/bag earn them anything? Would be like tipping ag 7-11.

Those tipping options are just getting worse and worse. Sorry, if I drive there and then get out of my car and walk to your counter to purchase something, I'm only paying what it costs. You get nothing extra for doing nothing extra.

0 tip if I'm picking it up and 25-40% if I'm eating in depending if I'm only paying for myself or not.
Paying for myself and a bill about $25, I'll leave $40.
Paying for someone else and the bill about $50, I'll leave about $70.

So you're saying that was a hint not to tip so much not just an 'interesting tidbit' the way you posed it?

If my meal is only $25 than I do tip around 40%, but if I'm having something more expensive and my meal costs me $50 than I'll tip less.
Is a $10 tip unreasonable on a $25 meal?

Is there any place that I could find a thread that deals with tipping servers?

Is there a website that alerts you to changes in car rental prices (similar to Kayak's flight price alerts)?

Absolutely. Not just unreasonable, borderline ######ed.

That's kind of how I tip as well. I'm bad for big tips on small amounts and smaller, but still socially acceptable tips on bigger bills.

Borderline ######ed? That's a tad harsh, no? I've tipped similar on many occasions, and don't consider myself borderline ######ed.
I may be stupid, and borderline ######ed, but there's no way I'm going to let you call m.....what'd call me again?

'Libra pondo' is Latin for 'pound weight', which became libra, which became lb.
Generally, it seems that abbreviations that don't make sense on the surface come from Latin... especially for elemental symbols in chemistry.
i.e. Plumbum = Pb (lead), ferrum = Fe (iron).
