Default Need to redo carpet at house (where to go?)

As always turning to my friends at CP to help me out. Looking to get new carpet in our home, the existing needs to be taken out and replaced any good tips on where to go? And for a home that is 1200? Square roughly how much (if you know roughly) will it cost. Obviously not all 1200 will be carpeted. Thanks so much.

We had our basement done thru Home Depot. I want to say it was somewhere around $3500 a few years ago. Cost is obviously dependent on underlay, carpet

We did ours through End of the Roll, was about $3000 for stairs, and an upper floor (~700sqft). Again, price can be as cheap or as pricey as you want it.

I have a buddy who does install work.

He will come measure and tell you how much you need and in what lengths you need to get it in.

You pick out your own carpet and he will install.

PM me if interested.

Home Depot is the last place you want to go for carpet.

No need to pay another middle man.

I've had 4 carpet experiences recently:

Lowes: Had about 5-600 sqft done including stairs was about $2400 (expensive). Service was quick and professional, only had to deal with the store. Check here because they often have a free install deal, though that doesn't include stairs or anything else non-standard.

Home Depot: Had 16 stairs and 2 landings done, was $2200 (uber expensive, but had no choice as I was trying to match some carpet and after visiting 15 stores Home Depot was the only one that was close). Only had to deal with the store, install was quick and professional.

End of the Roll: Had to get some carpet done on short notice (like within 2 days), they were able to get it done for me. Cost $6500 ($5k for carpet and underlay, $1.5k for install) for 15 stairs and about 1400 square feet. The estimator impressed me greatly by suggesting I paint Killz on the floor to lock in any possible odours from pet stains that may have soaked into the plywood floor. Installers were quick but weren't very personable, they didn't clean up after themselves at all.

Oaktree Carpets: About 600sqft, I think it was about $2000 total (can't remember for sure, but I know I chose a higher end carpet and thicker than usual underlay to satisfy a condo board), the install was only about $550 of that, with lots of built in closets to work around and furniture to move. They did a great job, super nice guys too I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. Pro-west Carpets is the name, PM me if you need their email.

My parents went through Jordans near Chinook Mall and the service was awesome. Tons of options as well. Not sure about price comparison though.

I always try to support 'the little guy' whenever possible - and I'm totally I glad I did last year when I finished my basement.

I got my carpet from a place called 'Glorious Carpets' (2808 Ogden Rd, just off Blackfoot). They were recommended to me by a guy I work with.

Long story short, they gave me a KILLER deal...the owner (His name was Allan) was beyond nice, and his installers were on-time & efficient too. I honestly can't find a single negative to say about these guys. I'd 10000% recommend them.

So what would people generally recommend? We want to install some carpet in the basement (probably just a small 10x12 room for now), but later on would like to replace all of the carpet on the upper levels (including a bunch of stairs). Sounds like the smaller shops seem to do a good job for a good price; the big box stores seem a little more pricey. There are also lots of ads for guys on kijiji -- is it worth the savings (if any) to go through them? I'd like to think carpet is pretty standard to install, but I'm sure there are good installers and bad ones out there (I would just be looking for a reasonably priced carpet -- nothing particularly expensive or complex to install).
