How was that a BS Red Card?
That was a brutal tackle by Shelvy.

Evans goes in with two feet studs up, Jonjo goes in with one. Both players are reckless but get ball first. How does one player get a red and not the other?

Perhaps I don't have my Liverpool glasses on but I don't see Evans going in with two feet studs up at all. I see him playing the ball and falling with Shelvy lunging with his studs at Evans leg.

Lacking class. But this should be to no one's surprise. With football, idiots abound.

Why didn't you post about the chants the other way? Turn off Twitter right before they started did you? Typical.

You mean the second one United has had in the past 29 matches at Anfield, which was widely reported this week? Great input. Thanks for the play-by-play, too...don't know how we'd manage without it.

That was a nasty tackle. Weird due to how Evans played the ball but Shelvey absolutely lunged into him studs up and that was very reckless.

My three posts are a play-by-play?
I'm not one to normally blame refs, but that was ridiculous. I'm completely fine with Shelvey getting the foul on that play, but both players are going in hard on a 50/50 ball. There is just no need for the ref to put his stamp on the game like that when it had been a perfectly clean game up to that point. A yellow would have done just fine to calm the game back down. It was very similar to the Everton-Liverpool game last season when Rodwell got wrongly sent off and completely changed the game.
The penalty was also very questionable. There is very minimal contact on that play and Valencia looks to take a dive when he feels Johnson's hand on his back.
It just doesn't make sense to call both of those plays in United's favor when he turns down Suarez's penalty shout and doesn't give Evra a card at all when he slides Sterling on the edge of the box and gets nowhere near the ball. (And I don't think Suarez's should have been a penalty, I just don't think Valencia's should have been either).

Probably because I saw that on the BBC website live update and that was all they had reference to. Otherwise I would have.
Satisfied?

If you call the Shelvey tackle a red, then you should call Van Persie's a red as well. The intent looked the same, and the tackle itself was more or less the same. The only difference is that Shelvey hit a guy head on who was down, and the impact appeared heavier due to the circumstance (which it was, but once again only due to the fact that Evans was down as well...two-footed no less). When Van Persie got Suso, he was upright, and tumbled in a way that certainly didn't look as severe. It's very difficult, if not impossible, to justify a sending off in one case, but not the other.
The penalty was extremely weak too.

My coles:
* Rodgers played his team as expected. High possession game.
* Shelvey's red was obviously the turning point. I anticipated a yellow. To suggest it was a 50/50 careless tackle, is laughable. You can see Evans let-up by fulling his cleats away from danger to his opponent. Where was Shelvey's similar restraint? He almost junked Evans. "Two studs up" Lol. Red is fair game.
* Giggs was marking Gerrard the seconds before he scored, then left him.
That goal is on him. Love him, but I've been saying this for a year now, time to hang them up.
* Valencia's penalty. I've watched it over & over again. He was fouled. Did he take advantage? Inconclusive.
* RVP's PK, was a heart stopper. Reina got his mitts on it, thank goodness RVP crushed it.
* Liked Fergie putting the armband on Giggs over Evra, at Anfield.

Looking at this the one going in two footed with determination (I.e. not letting up) is Evans.
What do I know though, we're all just whiners.
So.....
Kudos to United they played a fantastic match, carried the play throughout, deserved the win, stone wall penalty, no dispute about it. Suarez dived. What a cheat. Rvp only deserved a yellow (not even close to Shelvey/Evans tackle.) Liverpool were played off the pitch even before the red. United looking like a championship winning team if they continue to play like that
Top performance from Halsey today too. Smart, controlled decisions. Best ref in the prem.
There..... (no whining here)

I think Evans is a terrible defender but when you look at the video rather than a single picture you can see that he wasn't engaging in a two-footed studs up challenge. The reason why you see the studs of his right boot is due to the fact that his foot is on the upswing. Similarly, the studs of his left boot are showing because he was trying to plant it but Jonjo's tackle changed the direction and momentum.
That's what it looked like to me.

Jonjo hasn't even made any contact yet when Evans' studs are up.
I don't think Evans has done anything wrong, but when 2 guys both go in hard on a 50/50 ball then I find it ridiculous to kick one guy out of the game. Jonjo should get the foul for getting there slightly later then Evans and having his follow through hit his leg, but it isn't a red. Especially not early in a game that had been perfectly clean up to that point.

it's always easy to blame the refs, Ferguson or someone else ... but given how well Liverpool played today (especially in the first half), they should have won nevertheless. Just bury your chances, for god's sake. No need to just slam others, they had it in their own hands. Oh, and if not for Suarez' antics, he'd probably won the penalty. Just don't take off like a jet plane. That's the dilemma he shares with divers like Robben or Nani - you'll get that reputation and as a result, you probably won't get the penalties you really deserve.

They've got plenty to be pissed off about here. With Halsey's performance today, Webb will be lucky to get back in the side.

In other news, John Terry has retired from International football. Apparently it is all the FA's fault for making his position untenable.
However this does not affect his plans to collect the trophy if England win in Brazil.

They do have plenty to be pissed off about but that is in regards to their own team not the refs.
