Default Edmonton Indy Cancelled

On Friday, the city announced an end to its signature motorsport event after the promoter decided not to stage a race next year.

“It was a fabulous event to go to and it created a lot of buzz and excitement, but it is an eight-year run whose time is up,” Lorna Rosen, the chief financial officer for the City of Edmonton, said during a hastily called news conference. “We tried everything we can think of to make it a success, and the races were good, but the profitability as a business venture just wasn’t there (for the promoter).”

The race had been produced without a title sponsor the last two years by Octane Motorsports, which relinquished its option for a third event in 2013. On Friday, the Montreal-based company filed a bankruptcy notice in the Superior Court of Quebec.
So, how long until we see the "Calgary Indy" announced?

Rosen said Edmonton poured $22 million into the race over eight years, including $3 million to build a track at the City Centre Airport. In return, she said the city realized between $50 million and $80 million annually in economic benefits.
Seems like it might be something the city would want to sponsor?

As for Calgary, where would we hold such an event? Could we do it like F1 and just make a track out of city street?

With the conditions of the roads... not a chance, even in July.

Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Pacific Place, Circuit Mont-Tremblant, Calabogie Motorsports Park (likely a long shot), Quebec City (it has a freaking name I can't think of it though as the promoter of the Edmonton race has always wanted an IndyCar race here), and Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, are the only ones that will be given any consideration for hosting an IndyCar race in the future.

Then again Montreal is outta of the question since there are only allowed two race weekends per year at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, as they have F1 and the NASCAR Nationwide series come to town.

And that's not a rule that could be changed?

Why would such a rule even exist?

The wiki article says that exclusivity was awarded by the City of Montreal to the promoter of the F1 race.
