Picked up a 35 degree 110mm stem at lunch, that should help with the bar/seat discrepancy a bit. Bow Cycle is awesome. I haven't been there in a long time, but I had a great experience today. Just phoning The Bike Shop to see if they had the part to save the drive reminded me of why I will never shop there again.

The Bike Shop is the absolute worst shop in town! Bow Cycle, B&P, The Cycle Path and Tuxedo are all great though.

Ridley's has been good to me too, but I've had good experiences at all those shops except The Cycle Path, because I've never been.

no idea how they keep in business. Love my Rocky ETSX, but they'll never see another nickel from me.

I have never bought a bike from The Bike Shop, but have tried getting some parts from them. No luck. Stood at the counter and the bike mechs didn't even acknowledge me.

I go to Mountain Bike City and Campione Cycles. Eurotech off Northmount is good, too.

The blind vitriol directed at cyclists is fascinating and bewildering. Surfing beyond.ca (a local car forum) and checking out the cycling threads gives you some insight into the psyche of these people, it's just blind hatred and many openly admit to hoping they one day injure a cyclist. Just plain weird.

I picked up a Norco Sasquatch about 3 years ago and ride it around the trails here in my town. I also ride it to work every day and man this thing is not really meant for long distance pavement riding :P The good news is I get a great leg work out every day, the bad news is 60 year old men with their thin tires blow past me.

I had a fantastic cycling trip on Saturday. From my home in Shawnessy in the deep SW to the Zoo, then west to Edworthy Park, then back south along the east bank of the Bow to Hwy 22x, then Fish Creek Park back to home. A little over 92km. All via the pathway system. Nearly collapsed when I arrived back home as I didn't have adequate calories - water only. Wanted to push myself to see how long I could on an empty stomach. Doubt I will try that again as I suffered a massive headache afterwards.

I ran the 21.1 km, point-to-point Millarville "Run To The Farmers Market" Half Marathon course on Sunday morning, then cycled back to my vehicle in Black Diamond with my new Scott CX which I am absolutely loving.

I was using my new Nike sports watch to see if the GPS measurements of the course I'd made with a smartphone Map My Run application in the Spring matched up.

If I'd made a trip to the pool, I would have had a nice Triathlon day.

Anyone else out there doing the gravity MTB thing? After years of being a strictly XC mountain bike guy, I got into downhill riding in a big way last year. We were out at Moose Mountain on Saturday morning and conditions were PRIME.

I liked this article. As someone who commutes daily using DC's Capital Bikeshare, I can attest to not wanting to use it if I don't have my helmet on me. I do sometimes, but DC drivers (particularly Maryland and Virginia drivers) are completely insane. Cycling in traffic can be challenging here because a lot of the drivers don't want to respect the bike lanes. Still, with more and more people out on the bikes, it is really forcing drivers to change their habits, as cyclists on the streets aren't going anywhere any time soon.

In cycling related news, I witnessed a cyclist get pulled over by DC police because he stopped in front of the cars at a red light instead of beside them in the bike lane. DC law allows cyclists to still use the traffic lane even if there is a bike lane, in other words, the existence of a bike lane does not mean that you have to use it. I had got snarky with them as I cycled away, simply because DC is in no place to have officers wasting time harassing cyclists - there is a lot of real crime to deal with. I felt bad for the guy they pulled over, because he at least stopped at the red - I can attest that cyclists in DC might not always do that (me included).

Nice ride! Especially if you get to the Zoo by taking the Elbow River pathway and going by the Glenmore Res and then Heritage Park and Sandy Beach and Stanley Park. This is the best possible ride to experience Calgary in the Fall! Soo many nice parks in this city!

Critics are shaking their heads over the city’s decision to give on-street bike lanes top priority as part of the snow and ice clearing program.

About 10 km of on-street bike paths previously under a Priority 2 designation for snow and ice removal will now be Priority 1.

Under the plan, a total of 27 km on-street bike lanes will become part of the road maintenance department’s first priorities this winter.

If you build it, they will hopefully come.

Although my hopes aren't high. Already there is a ton of extra room in the bike room at work again, just because it got a little cooler. Apparently snow/ice aren't the deterring factor for a lot of people, they just don't own warm clothes I guess.
