I also believe you lose NFC functionality without the proper battery.

so the wife is sold on upgrading to the S3 from her old bb bold, and isn't interested in the iphone 5.
I called rogers, and they are charging ~130 bux for the upgrade fee (contract up in july), then ~150 bux for the phone, then some admin fee around 30 bux, minus a $50 rebate. in the end, looking at ~300 bucks upfront for the phone.
Looking at the future shop site, they offer the same phone, on a 3 year plan, with a phone cost of $0.
Is there anyway to buy the phone at futureshop, and have the contract extended at the same time (no issue in paying the early upgrade fee). saves me the 160 bux for the phone...

For me battery life is probably very close to, if not my number one consideration, I use my phone a lot and depending on the day am not able to charge it until bedtime.
To go along with that, I hate the idea of limiting the features that make these devices so awesome in the first place, just to save the stupid battery.
So I bought an extended battery, yes its a tradeoff. It increases the size of the phone and if you are big on the "slimness" or whatever you might not be able to get past the extra size, but for me its perfect. I have everything turned on all the time, during the day the screen is on full brightness etc etc, and with heavy usage I still have a good 40-50% battery left at the end of the day.
It is at least something to consider.

What battery did you buy? How much? Where didja get it? I assume it came with a case to accommodate the battery as well...

I should have said I have the Nexus S....but they are available for most phones with removable battery.
The two most popular are Seido and Mugen. I bought the Seido because they at least make the effort to streamline the case back, Mugen kind of makes it look like a brick.
They aren't exactly cheap, but for me it was well worth it. For the record, my phone does get made fun of from time to time for its odd appearance, but then I laugh right back when other people's phones die or get plugged in and Im still chugging along...

Thanks man - that looks perfectly acceptable to me. I was a little worried about the battery life when I first got my phone, but that's because I was playing with it too much. Now that I'm more into a "normal-use" phase, the battery seems fine. If it became a problem, though, I'd definitely grab that battery/case. Good find.

I downloaded SwiftKey3 on the recommendation of this thread. It really is great, but I've grown accustomed to typing with Swype.
TouchPal Keyboard is great if you're looking for an upgrade to Swype, and it's free! Highly recommended.

Many reasons, IMO. It asks to save any word you may use that it doesn't recognize, (as I just did with IMO). Now it's automatically recognized. My daughter's name (Ali) would always be added as Ashli on Swype, no matter how many times I had used it.
It adds common punctuation/capitalization automatically , such as can't, won't, Calgary, and I. Secondary characters aren't long press, but simply touching the key and sweeping up or down, depending on keyboard location, etc. Plus, it's much more responsive.
It's free, give it a shot.

Previous versions of Swype had this feature. I notice it's missing in the latest beta.

I use Pocket Casts. It's always up to date and the ones I want download flawlessly each time. What really won me over is one time StarTalk Radio stopped updating.. I e-mail the development team and they e-mailed back and forth with me a couple times to trouble shoot the problem and it was fixed.
Great App.

I use Doggcatcher now, but I've also used Pocket Casts. Both are far better than the Podcasts app on my iPhone.

Any SIII users have any issues with notification sound? A buddy here at work just got the SIII and he cannot get sounds. When you hit the volume button you get a message that says you cannot not adjust volumes when the sound is disabled. We cannot figure out how to re-enable the sound?
he says he has googled it and tried some solutions with no luck. I myself have not.
One more question. What version of the SIII is the Bell version when you are referencing XDA?

Tried that. Everything looks as if it should work. Volumes are all up and mute is off.
