I got an email from Roger's yesterday that it had shipped to the store and it gave a UPS tracking which showed the store received the phone this morning. Still no call from the store though
I reserved my phone with Rogers last Friday but still haven't received a shipping notification. Gah!
I've pre-ordered with Fido and have received notification that it has been delivered to the store. Anybody have any information about voice and data plans?
RFD is normally a good source of details but I can't find any reliable information yet.
To answer my own question - the folks at Fido are using the set voice/data plans as listed on their site. No special promos on plans. I'm not slick enough to fake a retentions 'deal' but have been told that if you currently have a 6GB plan to hang on to it as it isn't as easy to get anymore.
Was thinking of going down to get one this morning, but apparently they're not selling unlocked ones in stores at all today.
So the big question then is what does that mean, that they'll sell unlocked ones tomorrow?
If anyone is in an Apple store today maybe ask them please?
Sounds like only locked ones for launch. They didn't define the launch period nor if this policy would change.
My guess is it will remain this way till ample supply of the phone, to deter scalpers. Canada was essentially hunting ground for unlocked phones, and lots of people scooped em up and shipped em out of the country for massive $
- Holy moly! it's thinner and lighter
- Gadzooks! it's fast on LTE and even 3G
- Egads! it's zippy when loading apps etc.
- Wowza! it's precise in design, very refined
- Jiminey Cricket! it's noticeably bigger, but still doesn't feel awkward to use at all.
Backing up from my old phone now, interested to see how the sound has improved on calls and music.
Just got a 64gb black from Futureshop by Chinook, but they are all out now. Coming from a 3gs, and with limited uses so far, it seems super quick to me. I'm relatively impressed with the headphones, they are WAY better than the old ones. Don't isolate much sound, if you are a fan of the in ear headphones I'd imagine you would still prefer those over apples.

Silly penile measuring fanboyism aside, I wonder what the sales number will come in at for the weekend/one week. I've seen ranges of 6 million as a worst case scenario to as high as 10 million.
I think one week of sales will show up in their Q3 earnings - the holiday quarter could be crazy again if demand is indeed that high.
Thought about going today (I didn't pre-order) but I just don't feel like waiting around for my upgrade when all the carriers' systems are apparently overloaded.
Wonder when the unlocked ones go on sale.. I'd rather go to an Apple Store before then because you know those will bring lineups. =P
Not really a fair comparison either. A larger phone screen will break easier than a smaller one as the surface area is bigger. It will be more fair to compair the larger IPhone 5, when it ever arrives.

It would be like an employer evaluating employees based on a "higher productivity per foot of height" - let's pay the midgets more! Or that a smart car is safer in a head-on collision based on a "safety per inch car length basis" versus a massive hummer. Nobody will care about those things; unless you're a midget in a smart car that is.
Not really close it seems - I'm sure there will be more comparisons. Hopefully more data points.

The reason we have the "other thread" is to keep the Android vs iPhone stuff out of these threads. We're all aware that phones break when you drop them, or if you stuff them in a super-powered blender etc.
Short version:
Posting that in the "other thread" = Good
Re-posting it in this thread to maximize potential for drama = Bad
^^^^ Those are both really really poor drop tests. There was zero controls as to what part of the phone made impact with the ground. In the S3 test you can see the S3 make impact with the glass down. The Iphones always land on their edges.
That being said, a huge step forward getting rid of the glass on the back of the Iphone. Also, once again, the S3 has a significantly larger screen than the IPhone 5. A better comparison would be an Android with a comparably sized screen.
I think posting that in this thread is fine. It's fair to compare a new product to it's chief rival at the moment. And honestly the durability of the new iPhone was one of the things I was most interested in. It's good to see it (apparently) much improved. The 4/4s was fragile as crap, nice to see the fix from Apple there.

My phone (4s) feels a lot faster since the update. Loving it so far and finally I can use Siri. Only took almost a year but now the 4s is different the 4.
