Default Blues no longer Lack 1st's

After being waived by the Blackhawks and picked up by the Blues, Eddie Lack has been traded for a conditional top 25 pick to the New Jersey Devils.

The trade effectively solves the Blues 1st round pick debt. Blues GM RT had this to say, "Any time you can trade a claimed player for a 1st round pick, you have to pull the trigger."

More moves are expected soon, with the potential #1 Dman and 2011's 4th overall pick, Adam Larsson, among names being mentioned moving for more roster upgrades.

Am I totally off base but we mirror the NHL correct, In the NHL I thought you couldn't trade a waived player unless the other teams who put claims on him were allowed to have a chance at him?

YAY!! For Americans knowing rules and stuff...

I hated giving up a first for him and his cap as he cost the blues nothing, but I can't fault him for chicagos freebie that I would have paid the same for.

Well it's my understanding that Chicago didnt really mean to waive lack , #NewbieGMProblems. I dont think you should be able to claim a player just to trade him. That's kind of cheap eh?

3/4 of the claims were probably to trade him :P

I agree, I put in a claim for him and would have loved to have him for free.

I don't really see what the big deal is. Obveously STL is the benifactor of a misstep by the hawks but the system worked as its intended. To totally mimic the NHL waiver system would be a lot of additional work for the league (who already do a lot!). The vast majority of players that hit waivers are junk or serious projects anyway. Not worth it if you ask me.

It just seems weak to me . I dont think the system really did anything but give STL a free 1st in this deal. Sure it doesnt happen but much but it did just happen. If you cant waive a claimed player without him being subject, you definitely shouldnt be able to trade said player for an asset without allowing the other teams who put in a claim a chance at him.

If we were to mimic the NHL then finances in the sim wouldn't be disabled and cap would float around with revenue...which is possible in this sim but a huge pain in the butt. Tons of rules have been changed or varied to make the league easier for GMs to navigate, which means less frustration, which directly creates more fun

I'm 100% ok with the trade a waived guy rule.

Pat I was trying to help you out my friend. The Jets' record last year was no where close to being the next in line for Lack. Colorado's record ... Well let's be honest, they are probably next in line.

Nothing wrong with what happened here, st loo simply making a smart move and lack's value is prolly right around a late first.

Blocking St. Louis from making the trade would be a rule aimed at inhibiting trading in a league based largely around it.

In real life, it makes sense because it's unfair to the player to make him bounce around from team to team, so only teams that want to keep him should be claiming him.

In the CPHL, the player is a grouping of numbers and letters with no family, whom we want teams to be able to swap without unnecessary restrictions.

I really meant it as a joke though because I don't think Americans are stupid (generally), and I certainly don't think you're stupid. It was more of a very bad play on your praise of Americans.

I apologize as I really didn't think you'd take it personally. Sorry.
