You could be twice the guys size, be barrelling down on him, time a hit perfect and the guy with the puck will be unmovable, his momentum was unchangeable unless you mashed x and took a penalty. It forced every single player to have to play with the Bouwmeester pokecheck style because hitting became obsolete if the opposition knew the glitch, usually I'd just end up standing in front of the net blocking shots with my 6'9 260 pounder with max block stats because that's all he could do against exploiters. There was a lengthy discussion on the topic in the NHL 12 thread. Not being condescending at all, just surprised anyone could be unaware of this if they played EASHL for any length of time. It was comical how good I got at blocking shots, probably had 10 go off my ass every game

I know exactly what your talking about. I think. A player would stop skating and hit the protect puck button and it would cause them to turn their back and magically their back would be kept to the opposing d man going in for the hit causing him to slip the hit. I would do it in drop in all the time
Once people figured out that EA pretty much made hitting from behind obsolete people found ways to "cheat" the system and this one wasn't so much a glitch as it was an exploit. It was just the way the programming was.
With this year, I've tried it and it doesn't work, so yes, from my experience it has been "fixed." And with the recent tuners skating backwards is less effective when carrying the puck, and with the added effectiveness of the poke check, the figure skaters and the people that try to skate right at you and manage to hold on to the puck are a thing of the past. It's much more enjoyable this year.
And with hitting. I find it is speed and weight. If your standing still, it'll be a little harder to knock someone down, but you can still do it. Although, I'm a small player playmaker and I get knocked down when someone opens a door. I found that it has more to do with contact point. If you brush someones shoulder they will brush it off and hold on to the puck. But, if you land a solid hit on someone you might not knock him down but you will knock the puck loose.
I find this game more realistic in that if your head hunting your going to have a tough time playing d. Even with the hitting. Most hits in the NHL aren't laying someone out. But if you catch someone right they'll lay down. But this year is more about rubbing them out and protecting the high scoring areas. Just like in real life.

You can be that big. You just need to be smart, and really learn your angles and control your gaps. I played a drop in against a d man that was around 6'5 220. Amateur 3 card I'm guessing as he was really low overall and no one could get around him. He had a great active stick, gap control, and kept everything to the outside, and now that you can sweep your stick and skate at the same time this year made it that much harder.
But if you try to play this year like last year, then yeah, you'll get dominated.

good to know, I never went for the crushing hits because they almost never had good results. All I ever wanted was to be able to stop the forward momentum of a guy skating to the net if I am directly inbetween him and the net. I always played the Bouwmeester style, might switch to a much smaller much more agile player if the ability to alter momentum has been significantly improved.
I see a lot of people complaining about poke checks working too well, while in reality if you actually just skated forward with the puck unprotected it's quite easy to poke the guys stick if you can match his speed.

Ugh this game has done a 180 since being released. All the stuff I liked about the game they "fixed".
They're rewarding bad defence with stellar goaltending.

Oh and I think I've played LA like 5 times and have scored one goal and I usually score at least 3.
Quick is almost impossible to beat.
Not even going to play LA no more online.

Be a GM mode online with your buds (connected, I guess it's called), is ridiculous.
I don't know what I'm doing different from my buddies, but I'm 24-3-2 in my first 29 games, and they are battling for playoff position.
Maybe because this is the most realistic hockey game yet, and I know the most it's finally coming to pass .
And I have Corey Crawford as my starting goalie, his GAA is 1.61, ridiculous.

Just got it. Loading it up now, I'm a d-man only, EASHL only player. If anyone wants to add me, psn: shtoob. It'll be a few days until I learn the thing though.

Agree. Went 1-4 last night in Online vs. and outshot my opponent by at least 2-1 in 4 of 5 games. In a couple cases it was 3-1. I'd outshoot a guy 15-4 in a period, spend the whole thing in their end setting up chances in and around the slot, and end up down 2-0 at the end of it on totally random goals. I get that it happens sometimes in the real NHL, too, but every game? Kinda frustrating.
On the other hand, some games everything seems to go in, so the other guy's probably thinking something similar even though he's not kicking my ass in flow-of-play terms.

So, finally got my game today.
Why are Ivanans and Kostopoulos still on the Flames? And where is Cervenka?

The lines are all messed up. The crap thing is is that until the lockout ends and the Flames actually play, the lines for NHL 13 are going to stay screwed up.
Sven isn't on the Flames either.

Cevernka hasn't played an NHL regular season game, therefor he is not part of the NHLPA and not on an NHL squad - I believe he IS on the Czech national team though.
Sven isn't on the Flames because he didn't finish last season on the Flames.

I almost smashed the disk last night. I was trying to figure out how to create a custom player and use him in Be a Pro (which I eventually figured out), but I couldn't for the life of me and it was driving me insane. I decided to just start a Be a Pro with Iggy and play for awhile until I could figure out exactly what I wanted to do later. Go figure, as soon as it loads up and I'm getting ready to play my first game, Iggy gets traded to the bloody Bruins. FFS I almost lost it.

well, this has to my most regretted game purchase ever. I wish I could take it back, 60$ down the drain. I don't think I'll even play one more game of this, maybe I can get EB games to trade me back for Borderlands 2 because holy crap this game is not fun, at all. Pretty pissed that EA duped me into buying this piece of garbage. I don't think I've ever been so mad from a videogame, feels like my week is ruined from giving EA $60.

I haven't read the entire thread so excuse me if this has been asked already, but is there any way to delete GM Connected leagues? I started a couple just for testing purposes but can't see how I delete them from the list.

EA Sports...It's in the game. Hasn't that been an Eklund E4 like a dozen times!
