Yes, that's true, the internet is great at making "educated guesses," but I'm not sure where you're going with the newspaper comment. The idea is that being happy when suspects (again, he's not convicted of anything) get beaten and hospitalized is barbaric, whichever country it may happen in.

seems like a good thing in my mind.
I have spent one night in jail in my life.....when I walked out I was done with the stupid activity that put in there.

Well you were you saying not to past judgement until he was convicted, even though numerous of his friends have said he is a scammer and they posted his video of his silent auction.

Just spoke to my buddy who works at the remand centre and he missed it because he worked the afternoon shift. He mentioned this stuff happens four times a day and 'welcome to jail buddy'

difference is the other 3 people weren't "high profile" cases.

Do convicts have a constitutional right to be protected from assaults and rape while in prison? Seems to be Law of the Jungle in there.

The long awaited national prison rape elimination standards issued on May 17, 2012 by the Justice Department, if fully implemented, may end widespread prison rape in the United States, Human Rights Watch said today.

I'm surprised at how many people care. This type of #### happens all the time, but this guy just happens to be some high profile case. You reap what you sow. Karma is a bitch. Don't want unfair jail house beatings? Maybe try and avoid things like faking cancer? Seems pretty simple to me. People that have done far less have received beatings in jail. I live my life in a way where I wont end up in jail, because of #### like this... and soap dropping...
No good can come out of faking cancer and having fundraisers for said fake cancer. What did he expect?

Weren't you in jail at one time? I'm sure you'd be singing a different tune if you got #### stomped in Remand.

Ah son, yes I was. I spent a night in a eastern european jail. I stayed awake and had my head on a swivel.
But I have never been back nor did I continue the actions that caused me to spend the night there.
So no, I have no sympathy.

Another beating from about a month ago at the Remand Centre. This is brutal:

Crown argues for jail time for Calgary cancer fraudster
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgar...arguments.html
Find it semi amusing the crown wants further jailtime (over time served since arrest) for this guy, even after he pled guilty and accepted responsibility. They also want probation and him to make a $7,500 donation to Canadian Cancer Society.
The guy is pretty much trash morally, but I'd say he's paid his dues. Guy got beaten up while in jail and has spent 3 months in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day since then. Assuming he'll get probation either way, I'd be comfortable saying the Justice system did its job (which I don't think I've ever said about Canada) if they let him out once sentencing verdict comes down (another month).

I don't see why getting beaten in jail should factor in for whether or not he gets a jail sentence. If it did, then every mouthy d-bag who gets their butt kicked in jail should be released.
I don't know if jail is the answer here or not, but he should definitely have to make $7,500 donation to charity and probation goes without saying.

There has to be probation conditions put on this guy, and the beating in jail has nothing to do with his sentencing and the judge can't and shouldn't take it into account.
Sorry that you mouthed off that hells angel and got your a$$ kicked, I'll subtract a year for your stupidity.
How is pleading guilty acting responsibly, he was caught dead to writes and his lawyer probably told him to plead guilty because there was no way that he was getting off.
Its the whole sorry after your caught bs that drives me crazy, these people have no remorse when they're doing their stuff that gets them put in jail.
I don't know if he needs to spend more time in jail, I think a term in community, with a huge amount of community service doing some actual good in society instead of leaching off of it. I also think that he should have to face the people that he conned and seek forgiveness.
That would be a fair sentence, as well as the donation and a term of probation.
the guy is the lowest form of con man, and actually hurts efforts for cancer fund raising.

I love how many people were so concerned at the time for this guy when he was beat. When you are processed from APU you go to remand and you are put in with everyone. You can ask to be segregated or your put in with everyone else. #### like this happens all the time. For the most part the inmates there are not stupid at all. They read the paper everyday they, they watch the news on recreation and keep informed on whats going on. They knew this guy was coming and when he showed up someone in A&D recognized him and gave him the #### kicking he deserved. You dont like it dont go to jail. Fights happen more than daily there once you show up there its nobodies responsibilty to "protect" you but your own.

Well, actually, I think that the prison system does have a legal responsibility to try to protect the prisoners from other prisoners beating them up. Not saying they are always going to succeed, but you don't lose your right to security of your person because you are in jail.
