I played a bit of 2011, but I haven't played a EA NHL seriously since 2003. So I apologize if some or all of this is a repeat for you guys.
I am pretty impressed with this game, the AI is really good, and it seems like it actually matters where I shoot from. For example, if the lanes are clear there is a really good chance the goalie will see and save it, but using his own D men as a screen seem to give me a big advantage.
Overall the game is pretty fun, but it still just isn't quite as fun as 94 :P

Just fixed up my HUT team today.
Frans Nielsen - Martin Hanzal - Mikkel Boedker
Blake Comeau - Peter Mueller - Erik Condra
Benoit Pouliot - Cory Emmerton - Chris Neil
Tom Kostopolous - Someguy - Aaron Asham
Alex Martinez - Cody Franson
Andrej Sekera - Craig Zanon
Sean O'Donnel - Adam Mcquaid
Alex Auld
Laurence Brossoit
Not too bad, but I need 1/2 top line players and 1/2 top line Defencemen. I have no pucks though, so I can't do much

Did they patch it already? Seems harder to score on wrist shots now.

I played a bunch of HUT yesterday and it refused to give me the pucks I won. Like they just didn't add to my total.
Also has anyone noticed that the majority of the tourneys don't work? Like the "conference matchup" one - I have 5 central players, 5 northwest and 5 pacific (all coyotes 2nd line ftw) and it says I don't meet the requirements. People have reported something similar about international.

The downloadable tuners seem to be coming pretty fast. I noticed yesterday that suddenly interference was being called, and the poke check seemed to be tripping people a lot more as well.

So does anyone else take a long time to get onto the servers? I seem to have to clear cache everytime I turn on my xbox.

Still waiting for my NHL to arrive. Pre-ordered it on Amazon several months ago, and it says it's still in Mississauga as of this morning.
This is the first game I've pre-ordered online, but aren't they usually a little more prompt than this?

In my experience, no.
My friend cancelled his Amazon shipment after a rep told him his game wouldn't be there for 2 weeks after launch.
So he walked down the flight of stairs to get it at EB games.

Here's a list of the tuners that have been released so far as per the ea website.
Tuner Updates:
Name: Pre-Release
Date: Pre-09/11/12 (Pre-Release)
Notes:
-Goalies taking a better angle to the puck short side. This makes the slot more effective than bad angle shots when taking a good settled wrist shot. (short side is still possible but takes the goalie being a bit more out of position and/or a great shot)
-Increase in penalties across the board (with a specific look at tripping)
-Significantly lowered the chance of the high percentage goal where players were skating backwards then pivoting back to their forehand around the goalie
-Significantly lowered the chance of the high percentage goal where players would use protect puck to circle around the net and tuck it in far side
-Goalies are more effective on breakaways. Scoring on simpler dekes is much less effective but players can still score many ways on breakaways (shots or dekes to all parts of the net).
-AI on All Star difficulty and above are more aggressive.
-Goalie will no longer try to cover pucks that are far beyond their reach.
-Goalies react better to shots on the rush since they anticipate a shot more than when a team has setup and they have to track multiple players.
-Backwards skating with the puck is less effective.
Name: 1.01
Date: 09/13/2012
Notes:
-Fixes the issue where every shift would begin at a faceoff in Be A Pro when a User would sim to next shift.
Name: 1.02
Date: 09/14/2012
Notes:
-Grades for Goalies in Be a Pro/EASHL – Tuned to how shooting percentage effected goalie ratings in NHL 12.
-Tripping and Interference penalties increased

How is be-a-pro goalie mode in this game? Do you actually manage to get a fair amount of shots per game?

so did they fix the hitting? I only played EASHL and the danglers turning their backs on me (I like to play D) and skating right on by made me not play it anymore? Did they fix it where my 260 pound d-man will be unable to alter the direction of a 180 pound dangler as he spins in circles?

As a D man, hitting is more relative to your speed rather than your size in this game, despite whatever EA is saying.

I'm not really noticing that. I've had guys go full tilt into somebody and end up taking the worst of it.

Speed and point of contact definitely is the biggest factor in hitting. Checking stat and Weight/Height also help, but in all of my tests they are secondary. I play as a small, mobile d man and can lay out large players with my speed.

that doesn't answer the question, can they still turn their back on you and slide by? I like being the skilled d-man that knows how to set up a cycle, but I hated the hitting last year.
Also, what stats are completely useless for EASHL? I remember passing last year was completely useless as it was found to sometimes even making passing worse when you increased the stat.

Not sure what you mean by them turning their back and sliding by. If you're referring to them skating backwards, I've notice no difference in hitting, but I rarely have forwards dumb enough to skate like that into the zone.
As for stats I find useless for my style:
- Deking
- Aggression
- Fighting
- Faceoffs
- Shot Blocking
- Balance
- I put a bit into strength, which helps with shot power and hit power.
The passing stat effects how your target accepts your pass. Having low passing will make your target bobble the pass, especially long passes.

you're obviously the wrong guy to ask then because the hit glitch the danglers could exploit was one of the most known and complained about issues of NHL 12. This should be a simple answer, yes it's fixed, no it's not fixed. It was almost as bad as the glitch shots that worked every time. Sometimes certain players could get 6 or 7 goals sliding through our entire team then using a glitch shot.

Perhaps you can explain the issue/glitch rather than assuming everyone knows about it.

guy coming in from the wing with the puck goes to deke, slows down a little when you move to make contact, spins around when you are about to make contact and the glitch happens. The players simply do not interact with one another, the guy with the puck slides by as if the collision detection never occurred.
You could be twice the guys size, be barrelling down on him, time a hit perfect and the guy with the puck will be unmovable, his momentum was unchangeable unless you mashed x and took a penalty. It forced every single player to have to play with the Bouwmeester pokecheck style because hitting became obsolete if the opposition knew the glitch, usually I'd just end up standing in front of the net blocking shots with my 6'9 260 pounder with max block stats because that's all he could do against exploiters. There was a lengthy discussion on the topic in the NHL 12 thread. Not being condescending at all, just surprised anyone could be unaware of this if they played EASHL for any length of time. It was comical how good I got at blocking shots, probably had 10 go off my ass every game

in this game i'm pretty sure you don't want to be a 6'8 280lbs TGD or DFD. your skating would be pretty damned bad......also i disagree with lik. if you have more size you don't even need to be skating and can send somebody to the ice. in fact before they tuned the interference i was regularly people coming into the slot from a standstill and taking them out, was pretty fun haha
