Default WEEK 12: Bombers at STAMPEDERS

WEEK 12: I think the toughest game Stampeders is when they are playing a team who is struggling. It seems like whenever they do, they become over-confident and lose focus. It happenned twice already this season both against the Argonauts. I hope the Stampeders learned from that lesson and start taking advantage of a lesser team. The Bombers is a joke from top to bottom. Players are so undisciplined and take a lot of penalties. The coach passed up on trying to kick a field goal and punted instead. The General Manager refused to sign a player that will improve their team.

OFFENSE:

As expected RB Jon Cornish won the Canadian Player of the Week the 3rd week in a row with his performance against the Eskimos. Cornish rushed 16 times for 185 yards giving him the league leading 827 rushing yards of the season. Only Orville Lee leads the CFL in rushing yards as a non-import. Only 2 Stampeders RB won the CFL rushing title. Twice by Joffrey Reynolds(2008 and 2009) and Gary Allen(1986).

R Romby Bryant is questionable on this game leads the team with 5 catches for 96 yards last game. If Romby can't play, rookie R Maurice Price will take his spot.

QB Kevin Glenn did the job last week. It wasn't pretty but he won the game against the Eskimos. He passed for 254 yards with 2 TD but unfortunately threw a couple of INT at the Stamps end zone. He won 3 games in a row but the downside was he threw 4 INTs in the last two games luckily it didn't cost them the game on both occassions.

DEFENSE:

Stamps held the Eskimos 4-headed monster to less than 20 yards in rushing total.

MLB Juwan Simpson led the team in tackles again last game vs Eskimos with 9 tackles and now 6th in the CFL with 52 tackles. Rookie DB made his CFL debut last game with 5 tackles.

Calgary sits 7th in the league in takeaways with 14 and 7th in takeover ratio at -9. They are also 3rd in the CFL for QB sack with 19 sacks. DL Charleston Hughes leads the team with 5 QB sacks.

Calgary just signed former Stamps enemy Stevie Bagg. He will replace Kenny Pettway, who is questionable for this game.

SPECIAL TEAM:

Larry Taylor got injured last game and will be gone for awhile. Calgary signed returner Jason Armstead to take his place but he won't play against the Bombers. LaMarcus Coker will be the Stamps' returner on this game.

************************************************** *********

GO STAMPS GO!!!!

Game Time: 7:00pm at McMahon Stadium
Televised : TSN & RDS2. For the fans in the US, the game will be live webcast on ESPN3.

This SHOULD be a cakewalk for the Stamps. On the other hand, the Blue Bombers have been humiliated and are a wounded animal right now. Will they play like one? Personally, I kind of doubt it.

Looks like a beautiful evening tonight, everyone get out there and support the CFL! Let's actually fill McMahon for once

Stamps don't fall for the trap game and go take care of business.

I'm looking forward to seeing Garcia get inducted to the wall of fame tonight. The linked article brought back great memories of the way the Stamps used to absolutely blow teams out game in game out with Jeff at the helm during my junior high years. I remember him as a player who's athletic abilities never should have afforded him the opportunities he got, but yet his heart and mind willed him into NFL stardom via the CFL.

One particular game that stands out in my mind was when he came into the game on Labour Day in 1995 to relieve the injured Doug Flutie. The Stamps never missed a beat and Jeff proceeded to put up over 500 yards passing, 6 TDs, and blew out the Eskies 51-26. After that game I was no longer worried about how long Doug Flutie remained a Stamp as I knew they'd be in good hands.

Looks like Stevie Bagg and Jason Armstead will not suit up against the Bombers tonight (according to TSN).

This is exactly the kind of game the Stamps of the past couple of years would lose. Luck gave them two games in a row, they better reconize that they can't lose the turnover battle week after week and still win (Some teams have FG kickers who can split the uprights from 40+ yards out!).

Jeff Garcia was one of my favorite and i even watched him play in the NFL. Very classy down-to-earth person. I also love watching Kelvin Anderson power rush. Too bad he left on a bad term the same way Buono left because of the Feterik. I can't believe Barker replaced him with the drug addict. Well deserving Wall of Famer. Sig Gutsche deserved the Wall of Fame too for saving the Stamps from folding. After Larry Ryckman lost the team, Sig was there to the rescue. As for the other two, they were before my time so i can say much about them.

This is the first thing I thought of when looking towards this game --how will the Stamps manage to lose it. I've seen zilch from this team that them going at anything less than full tilt is going to give them a successful outcome.

i'm a huge Jeff Garcia fan!! How big? i actually watched almost every one of his NFL games! it was kinda torturous with the commercials but i still did it!

Does anyone remember why in that game they had Flutie take the first snap and hand the ball off before Garcia came into the game?

Ah yes, I recall that when I was in attendance at that Labour Day game. I think it had to do with some sort of statistic of consecutive starts or something for Doug's benefit and by handing off the football he somehow achieved it. Not sure what it was specifically.

Mentally I've already checked out and am standing on the grass at my tailgate on the West Side drinking a cold one.

I am pretty sure Doug Flutie went down with injury before the Labour Day game in 1995. Then started against Edmonton Eskimos on Labour Day Classic and tortured them with 546 passing yards and 6 touchdown passes. I can't remember what type of injury Flutie had. Labour Day Classic was the 2nd game Garcia played for the Stamps.

Yes, it was true that Flutie was injured with tendonitus in his elbow prior to the Labour day game. However he still trotted out for the first snap of the game and was announced at McMahon as the starting QB before yielding to Garcia for the rest of the drive and thus the game. The reason why is what we're trying to figure out.

Wow, the only excitement you can get from this game is Nik Lewis passing 10,000+ yards, Kevin Glenn passing Dieter Brock and of course Jon Cornish's play. Bombers doesn't seem to have their heart playing this game. They looked like they gave up already. First half over, Stamps ahead 27-0. Cornish 2 rushing TD, a fake field goal TD by Rob Cote and 2 FG by Rene Paredes.
