You must have been in some incredibly poor LTE coverage then. You can't not notice a difference with a good signal, it's crazy fast.

I have an iPad 3 with LTE, and downtown Calgary I get speeds faster than when I am on wifi.

For those with iOS6, can you be selective with the facebook integration? I read (TUAW article) it added your facebook contacts into the phone's contacts (which can be good) but added their facebook e-mail as the default one (not good). Any comments?

I'm kinda curious, I don't mess with puts that much.

What's your expiration? It's up about $30 in the last day since; QE3 probably doesn't help.

January 500s. Down $1.55 to $3.40. I have faith though! banking mostly on supply problems.

Also AAPL is only up $16 from yesterday morning.

Just called Fido to see what their procedure was and see how many Fido dollars I've got, and I just found out that when I got my iPhone 4 2 years ago at launch, they didn't give me a new 3 year contract starting on the purchase date (i.e. replacing the existing contract), which is what they told me they were going to do, they gave me a new contract appended to the old one.. so my contract doesn't expire until 2014!

I'm sure I even had them write it down, but I think I got rid of all that paperwork in the great office cleanup of 2012.

"There's nothing I can do."

I've been with Fido almost since they were Microcell, they've got to be able to do something for me. No CPers work at Fido?

They did the exact same thing to me.

Sometimes, if you're polite but persistent with someone in retentions, good things can happen...

Unfortunately Fido's policy is stacking, however there were some reps who made that mistake, but they didn't really fix it. You could try contacting a manager and see if they will over-ride it, but odds are your SOL.

I've NEVER had any luck with retentions, ever. I think they know that deep down I won't do it. She did say that since I'd been a customer with them for so long it'd be a shame to lose me (it's been 14 years!!).

I did find the original contract and it does have it on there, though it's confusing.

One place says Service Type: Renewal and Agreement Date: 07/30/10

Then another says

New Agreement Term: 36 months and Effective Date: 07/12/11

So yeah it is there, but I don't recall that being pointed out.

It's not the term of the contract so much that annoys me, I'm happy with Fido and I hear too many bad stories about everyone else to want to change.

She did offer me $50 towards my $400 cancellation fee if I wanted to go that route (i.e. cancel and get a new contract with the iPhone 5), but she couldn't negotiate anything for that since they don't have any info for that, she said to reserve it tomorrow and call back on the 21st and she said "I'm sure we can come up with something".

I'm still not even sure I want an iPhone 5 though.

I'll have to crunch the #'s, maybe I can swing this into a better deal on the plan instead of the discount on the phone.

The other wrinkle is I still have the $30 / 6GB plan which who knows if they'll offer it again, that's worth something too.

Massive cancellation fee, not worth it. Buy an unlocked 4S or even 5. Instead, negotiate a monthly fee discount for this incident. (At 350$ ECF, Unlocked is 700 or 4ish for a 4S 2nd hand)

Don't get suckered into upgrading your 6GB plan into an LTE one. Rogers/Fido will be doing that for free for every data customer shortly.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, wanted to work out the #'s though, hard to know what they'd offer me contract wise. Have to check what other carriers are offering too. Lol Wind has $29 for unlimited talk and data, but they don't even have coverage at my house.

I thought to get LTE you just needed an LTE SIM card but you'd keep the same data plan? You mean they'll need a different data contract as well?

Prior to iPhone 5 announcement- Rogers/Fido had separate "LTE" Plans when this was not even necessary. They tried to convince people to sign up for it and removed Data credits on plans hehe..

All that IS needed is the LTE sim card
Considering you have 2.5 or w/e years left in your plan, I don't think you will get a major deal, but you might get a 10$ discount or something like that. Still worth it to go unlocked over cancelling and buying the phone though! (Imo, especially if you go 4S unlocked used or something, basically same price as just cancelling!)

I've got a 4 so a 4S wouldn't be worth the upgrade. The 5 would partially be for work (to test apps being developed) too so it's tax deductible.

Plus I found this about the LTE:

http://www.iphoneincanada.ca/iphone-...overage-recap/

Quote:
I spoke to Customer Service at Fido regarding my $30/6GB plan and was told that all I would need is a new SIM and an LTE compatible device, so there doesn’t seem to be any need to change the plan itself (whew!). Your mileage may vary of course.
Which if true would probably be worth it too, I can keep my $30/6GB plan and get LTE.

I think peoples' expectations for year to year progress in smartphone hardware are way out of whack with reality. Especially with Apple who it seems are being penalized in some peoples' opinions for having good hardware and software in place years ago.

I just don't see how it's apt to compare the year to year changes between a fairly mature product line (iPhones) to one that until a year and a half ago was a work in progress (Samsung's Galaxy phones). Of course the latter is going to see more change over the last while because it had a lot further to travel to even catch up to the iPhone, let alone surpass it. I'll be interested to see how much incremental progress Samsung can make on the Galaxy line after 5 years of it being out and whether their feet will be held to the fire in the same way. My guess is people will quickly realize that innovation and progress in technology is not linear.

That's not to say comparisons aren't valuable or that criticisms of Apple aren't warranted; but articles like the Economist one above where they give one of the 2 or 3 best smartphones in the world a 5 out of 10 rating simply because it didn't live up to their ridiculous expectations are silly. The thesis of the article seems to be that the iPhone 5 belies Apple's reputation as an innovator, but they completely ignore that since the 3G or 3GS, pretty much every version has simply been incremental upgrades (better processor, better camera, slightly updated software).

Hrm. Most of the negativity of that review was "Apple has hit a home run so many times and this time they barely beat out a single, so that was a terrible at bat for them". Their reputation for always being the "best new thing" is now their downfall.

Anyhow, I thought the 4 was an incremental improvement over my 3gs, so I didn't get it.
I thought the 4s was an moderate improvement over my 3gs, so I didn't get it.
I think the 5 will be a huge improvement over my 3gs, so I'm getting one.

I don't expect Canada to win gold at every Olympics... there are just too many good teams out there. But with so many countries pushing us to stay competitive, the hockey is always damn good.

I have apple everything but I won't be getting the iPhone5. Hardware improvements aside it is about function and my 4s is fine.

It seems that most of my disappointment is software related and I hope ios6 is an improvement but my reading online, I am not sure that is the case

My blackberry had profiles. Why can't iOS For example.
