All the non-nerds I know that have iPhones do not upgrade to every single model they put out, I know people with 3Gs, 3GS's, and 4's. Even the nerds I know don't upgrade to every model (I have a 4, not a 4S, wasn't worth upgrading). And most nerds I know have more than 1 phone, usually an iPhone and an Android phone, plus a half dozen older phones.
You seem to be assuming that just because Apple introduces a new phone that EVERYONE that has one upgrades, then you are basing your arguments on your assumption. That's fallacious.
And before you said that ALL Apple users buy Apple products ONLY because they want to own an Apple product, no other reason. So either your reasoning is a bit circular, or your just pointing out the obvious that irrational people do irrational things.
I wasn't reffering to the casual person who buys an Iphone simply because the 3 year old phone needs a replacement. I was talking about your iFanatics that upgrade with blind faith regardless of reason. Like most of the people in here who have a 4S but will be purchasing the IPhone 5. That is blind fanaticism. What "breakthrough" does the 5 bring to the table that makes them want to replace their basically brand new 4S?
You're exactly right that I am pointing out that irrational people do irrational things. Thats EXACTLY what I was trying to convey with my post. Apple is the king of getting people to irrationally give them money and there are more people who fall for this than any other brand on the planet. Not only that, but on top of this they are also the ones who will argue with you to the death about why they do it when they're to afraid to say "I just really love apple and I like having all of their products" which, like I said earlier, is completely fine if you can accept that and realize that you are going to get a lot of negative feedback for having that stance.
That is also what I was talking about with my Ipad comment. I was specifically talking about the countless amount of fanatics that will end up owning an Ipad, and Ipad mini and an Iphone.
Also as an aside, I never understood the point of jailbreaking an Iphone... To me that seems like you're taking your Iphone and basically turning it into an Android.
As for the business case, Google and all the other android companies seem to be really betting on intergration with future tech. The more share android gets, the less they will care about Apple consumers and they will stop porting their main apps to iOS. However, Apple seems to be trying to pre-empt this themselves by starting to develop their own apps to replace Googles.

What I don't get is why anyone has to justify to you or anyone else how they want to spend their money. Plus I really doubt outside the hardcore users people will jump from the 4S to the 5, you're really grasping at straws to make a highly flawed argument. The mindless sheep thing is a pretty big joke, it's no different than the way hardcore Android users behave, and it reeks of hypocrisy.

Honestly at this point how are the Android fanboys any better than the Apple fanboys? If anything, it doesn't seem to me like fans of Apple aren't as determined to bash Android users as it is the other way around. Some people like Apple, some people like Android. To each his own. Why does it really make any difference? I like my iphone, but I'm not going to bash a buddy of mine because he decides he likes Android better...
Wait, you are saying that they took in 26 billion in revenue on hardware, but still made less than 2 billion profit on that 26 billion?
I know nothing about Apple bottomline, and I really dont care to be honest, but that can't be right.
No thats not what I'm saying. What i'm saying is the effort required for that 2billion was much less then the effort required then for the GP of 26billion.
Apple’s Q3 2012: $35B In Revenue, Net Profit Of $8.8B
Net profit is different from gross profit in that, Net profit is after taxes, operating costs, capital expenditures, depreciatione etc.....
But in fact is the companies bottom line: 25% are freakin amazing numbers,.

At this point they are far more obnoxious, like I said in an earlier post, look at the S3 thread and compare it to this one.

Where are you even getting this? I challenge you to link to more than 3 posts where where a 4S user is upgrading to a 5, or an iPad owner plans to own both and iPad and an iPad mini.

So what do all the chapters above add up to? Which one is better: the Galaxy S3 or the iPhone 5? Well, I know most of you were hoping for a definitive answer, but as far as I’m concerned, it’s really all about personal preference!
The Samsung Galaxy S3 has the advantage of a bigger display and an array of customizations that can be made thanks to its Android operating system.
The Apple iPhone 5 has the advantage of a better optimized ecosystem, no LTE compromises, as well as slightly better internal specs.

I may be subjective, but I find Android to be better than any other mobile OS out there. I don’t like the chains attached to the locked down iOS.

The iPhone 5 is currently the best smartphone in the world when it comes to raw processing power, and also the best LTE capable smartphone ever
Quote:
If you want a big (4.8-inch) 720p screen with some of the most vivid colors ever reproduced by a display, get the Samsung Galaxy S3. If you want a more compact (slim and pocketable) design and are willing to sacrifice a bit of screen real estate, go for the iPhone 5.

Although I’m as big of an Android fan as they get, the reality is that the Apple iPhone 5 will deliver graphics performance well beyond the top of the Android crop, and CPU performance that’s at least on par with the international version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 (the fastest Android smartphone there is). The U.S., Qualcomm S4 version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 badly loses its spec war against the Apple iPhone 5.

Being an iPhone & iPad owner to be honest I am much more embarrassed at the Apple Fanboys posts in both thread more then the Android Fanboys. Yes the Android people talk about better hardware (which is true) and newer tech (which is true) repeatedly but the Apple side argues back with whatever works at the moment. Earlier it was the "who cares about LTE, Carriers dont have good reception on it yet" and now that LTE is in an iPhone its "LTE is a big selling point for me".

The Hypocrisy goes both ways.
Wonder why that perception has changed in a year. Telcos upgrading their networks making it usable have obviously nothing to do with it....
And for me the ability to sync all the devices across my family is pretty cool.
I download music on my phone, it automatically downloads on my wife's phone (she uses the same account) and to my son's ipad and vice versa. I put the latest songs in one playlist and she puts hers in another playlist and they are all synced. We come home and want to listen to some music on the stereo, hit airplay from my phone to the Apple TV and bingo same song. Same thing with apps, they get synced to all the devices. Not sure what reason I have to move from Apple products?
Same here, and I'm happy. Sure there are features on other phones I drool over but my basic needs are more than met with my iPhone, it works great, the whole ecosystem works ridiculously easily, and I'm thrilled that virtually all of the latest features are coming to my iPhone 4. So to me the arguments of which ecosystem is better are moot.

Except that Apple says that iTunes runs about break even during their investor calls. Unless they are lying to the shareholders, there is no way that the "effort" (expenditures) is less on iTunes than the hardware, where they command terrific margins as you have noted.
Currently got the 4s so I see no need to upgrade. Can't believe how little they changed. And Siri is still useless in Canada. I think I used Siri the first week I had the phone and haven't had a use for it since.

Bizzare comment.
That argument was in the Galaxy S3 thread by an apple user and later edited when the LTE was a rumor for the iPhone 5.......far from last year.
Bizarre comment not so much. I am not trying to get into an argument with a fanboy trust me, they are always right no matter how wrong they are. You forget that I mentioned I own several Apple devices I was just pointing out that BOTH sides argue in a circular manner.

If you are jailbroken Siri has full functionality in Canada, Pretty much was the reason for me to jailbreak.
