Skype.
Since nobody asks their friends and family if they wanted to have a VoIP call.

Does that count though? Because Skype is the only thing that 90% of people use and if they're not using it then they'll call it whatever they use (i.e. "lets talk on Paltalk" or some BS)
Thats why I don't think "Google" counts either. No one says "I'll google it" and then pulls up Yahoo.
On the other hand, people routinely refer to all brands of tissues as kleenex and all brands of inline skates as rollerblades...

This whole "Coke" thing bottles my mind. It seems like the most ridiculous/confusing thing, and does not surprise me at all it is only in the Southern US.

The real question- is it ever worth while to buy something that is not the brand-name? Seems to me, when you buy from a second rate manufacturer, you always get a second rate product.

I'd say that PC is the opposite of this, where a generic term has come to be associated with a specific company's product.

Totally a Canadian thing; I vividly remember a heated debate when I was 10, with my American cousin who insisted they were "ramen". I was having none of it.

I've been told many people call it Top Ramen no matter the brand http://www.nissinfoods.com/topramen/
