icon54 Countries that don't sell Coca-Cola

Interesting article... as of this week there are now only two countries in which you can't (legally) buy Coca-Cola.

Quote:
Coca-Cola says it sells 1.8 billion servings of the drink every day. But for the last six decades, none has been in Burma.

That's because of US trade sanctions on the military junta which ruled the country from 1962 to 2011.

Those sanctions were suspended a few months ago, as the country began to move towards democratic reforms.

But the company said on Monday its first delivery had arrived and local production would begin soon.

Didn't I just hear somewhere that Coke was coming to North Korea, leaving Cuba as the only place left?

I swear I just heard that within the last couple of weeks.

edit: ahh, video was leaked, denied by Coke

Having been to Cuba it's pretty readily available in the tourist areas. To boot it's the epic cane sugar coke from Mexico.

almost anywhere outside of the US and Canada (and Europe maybe?) Coke is made with real sugar. Dominican Republic has it's own Coke factories and they use real sugar, same with Thailand (and i'm assuming the rest of Asia). one of the first things i did on my last vacation was to grab a Coke in one of the old school bottles when i landed in Bangkok. so tasty

I seem to remember drinking this stuff in Cuba.

Our resort had an Ice Cream machine and I made lots of Tropicola floats.

Coke tastes so much better in those thick glass bottles than it does in cans or plastic bottles, but nothing beats drinking it out of a plastic bag in Thailand.

I wonder if 100 years from now people will look at sugar in our diet like we now look at tobacco or alcohol.

Easy. It wouldn't be the same without cola though.

I believe they've gone back to the name Burma this year after the recent government switch to democracy with elections and Aung San Suu Kyi being released from house arrest and being elected to parliament.

I think the people have always been callee Burmese no matter what.

I seem to recall we couldn't buy Coca Cola in Venezuela when we lived there (this is pre-Chavez as well).

When I still lived in Calgary I used to have some involvement with the Mon ethnic group from Burma, and they all refused to call it Myanmar as they viewed that as the name of the military junta as well as generally not compatible with their ethnic status.
