I am thankful that the insects aren't driven inside because of our cold climate. I know there are probably enough ways for them to get in if they had the inclination. Granted there is no additional food for them inside a house, usually.

There is one creepy red spider that has made its home on my balcony for a few months now it seems. It has actually kept me from going outside, to say, read on my balcony or something. He's back, every night, just hanging out on his web.
I picked my fourth floor apartment in part because I presumed less bugs would get inside my suite. I was correct. For the most part.

Less bugs get into your suite DUE TO the creepy red spider.

I refuse to acknowledge his or her role in the matter.

Sounds like the complicated relationship i have with a spider in my attached garage.
I generally cant stand spiders, especially inside the house. I found this guy, no idea what kind of spider he is, see alot of them around tho. Its a good size, would definitely meet the spider mini-bat if it enters the actual confines of my home.
First time i saw it near the overhead door, hiding in the corner, i almost crushed it with a hockey stick. Then i noticed the impressive, low key web that was strung between some exposed wooden studs, packed full of various insects. I respected that.
I let him be in what i consider a mutual agreement. Spider eats other bugs, stays out of the way and in turn i will not squish it.
Unfortunately the spider may have caught some of the pressure washer a few weeks ago. Mostly accidental. We havent crossed paths again yet, but i hope he is still out there. Kinda like batman.
Typically i would end this spider with no hesitation, so this a big stride for me. The lady of the house knows nothing of this, obviously.

They would be my best friend if they took care of my fruit fly problem. It's a smorgasbord of food, but no takers.

To very quickly and easily take care of a fruit fly problem, put a couple cm's of apple cider vinegar (or any vinegar, really) into a container you don't mind bugs in. Add a couple of drops of liquid dish soap, and leave it alone. You'll be amazed how fast you catch the little buggers.

Get a sundew from a local plant nursery. It is a sticky carnivorous plant.

I have tried the apple cider and vinegar in a cup with a little Sarah wrap and tiny holes punched in the top. It works well. Just doesn't catch all of them. Probably need to cut down on composting until they all die. Anybody know how they breed though? I have thrown stuff out, where I assumed any eggs might have been, but no luck.

Why the saran wrap? The dish soap should break the surface tension and have them drown pretty quickly. I've never put the wrap over the top. Just put the cup out and collect the little carcasses.

The saran wrap traps them in if they don't take a dip into the apple cider.vinegar. I put a few holes in with a toothpick, so they can easily find their way in, but trickier for them to get out, at least quickly. It still doesn't catch all of them though. They seem to keep reproducing. Is there some kind of queen, or can any reproduce?

BUMP! I keep finding these guys in my basement. They give me the creeps. Any idea if they're venomous or not?
Roughly the size of a nickel.

Because it you see them on the screen, you won't be paying attention to the one crawling on your shoulder.

My wife hates spiders, but I've gotten her to agree that spiders in the basement are fine as long as they stay in basement. As soon as they make it past the main floor, I need to come in and deal with it.
